Mayap a Oras pu,MDRRMO Apalit!🧡💚
An open letter for the MDRRMO Apalit team.
This month made me see you in a different light.
I’ve seen how exhausting these past weeks have been—the floods, the Habagat, the endless calls for help, the evacuations, the rescues, the accidents, and even the moments when you had to face people who were no longer alive. I’ve seen the exhaustion in your faces, but more than that, I’ve seen how you still choose to show up.
Some of you haven’t even gone home to your families since this whole ordeal began. While we were worried about our own homes and loved ones, you were out there helping someone else get back to theirs.
And that kind of sacrifice is something I don’t think I fully understood before.
Before, I would see you tired and think, grabe, pagod na sila. But now I understand that there is so much more behind that exhaustion. There’s the weight of the things you’ve seen, the people you’ve lost, the families you’ve helped evacuate, and the worry of not knowing how your own families are doing while you’re out saving others.
And somehow, you still find a way to laugh.
Now I understand why you’re always so masayahin. Your humor isn’t just humor—it’s probably one of the few things that keeps you going when the work gets heavy. In between the chaos and the sadness, you still choose to make each other laugh, because sometimes that little bit of happiness is what gets you through another day.
I’ve always seen the pagod. But this month, I finally understood the sacrifice behind it.
And I am so, so proud to be part of this team. Proud of every rescuer who continues to answer the call despite being exhausted. Proud of everyone who puts other people’s safety before their own comfort. And proud of our head too, for seeing how he takes care of the people he leads—not just as members of the team, but as people he genuinely looks after.
To our rescuers: please know that your sacrifices are seen.
And to everyone we serve, please be gentle with our rescuers. Be patient with them. Be kind to them. We don’t always know what they’ve been through before they arrive at our doorstep. We don’t know if they haven’t slept, if they haven’t been home, if they’re worried about their own families, or if they’re carrying the weight of something they witnessed just hours ago.
While they’re helping us get through our worst days, they may be silently missing their own families, too.
So to the people who keep showing up even when they’re tired, scared, and hurting—thank you.
You are more than rescuers. You are people who choose, again and again, to be there for others.
Saludo ako sa inyong lahat. 🤍
