TINGNAN: Nagsagawa ng kilos protesta ang ating kilusang militanteng mamahayag na grupo at mga Makabayang grupo upang irehistro ang agarang pagpapatalsik kay Vice President Sara Duterte sa tarangkahan ng Senado, ngayong araw, Mayo 18.

Bitbit din ng mobilisasyon ang panawagan para sa agarang pagkaka-aresto kay Sen. Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa, at paniningil kay Pangulong Bongbong Marcos sa kawalan ng kongkretong aksyon ukol dito.

Ngayong hapon nag-convene ang Senado bilang Impeachment Court laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte, matapos maipasa ng House of Representatives ang Articles of Impeachment noong Huwebes ng gabi sa kabila ng tensyon na nangyari sa loob ng Senado.

BREAKING | UP Cebu alumnus, four individuals killed in Cauayan military operation

UP Cebu Computer Science alumnus and student leader Vince Francis Dingding was among the five individuals killed in a military operation conducted by the 15th Infantry Battalion under the 302nd Infantry Brigade on Saturday, May 16, in Cauayan, Negros Occidental.

The other fatalities were identified as Jobert Casipong, Gilbert Tingson, Rolando Dantes, and Alex Chavez Languita. Authorities said the incident occurred in the hinterland areas of Barangays Abaca and Poblacion.

Dingding previously served in the UP Cebu University Student Council (USC) as vice chairperson in 2015, councilor in 2014, and second-year representative in 2013. He was also affiliated with the mass organizations Nagkahiusang Kusog sa Estudyante (NKE) and Kabataan Partylist Cebu.

Within the university and broader Cebu community, Dingding was known for campaigns centered on student rights, education, and human rights advocacy.

He participated in campaigns opposing the STFAP/STS tuition scheme, pushing for free education in state universities and colleges (SUCs), resisting the K-12 program, and joining national mobilizations against the Pork Barrel system and the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA).

The incident comes amid continuing militarization and counterinsurgency operations across the Negros Island Region (NIR).

Longstanding socioeconomic issues in the region, including low farm wages, contractual labor arrangements, and lack of land ownership among agricultural workers, have long been factors contributing to resistance in the island.

Despite the island’s major contribution to the agricultural industry, many farmworkers continue to face low daily wages reportedly ranging from ₱150 to ₱250, contractual labor arrangements, and lack of land ownership.

Nagprotesta ang mga manggagawa't mamamayan kasabay ng unang pagtitipon ng Senado bilang Impeachment Court.

Giit ng ating samahan at iba pang mga grupo: hindi dapat protektor ng mga kriminal ang Senado. Dapat i-convict si Sara Duterte. Dapat arestuhin si Bato dela Rosa. At dapat panagutin din ang mga kasabwat niyang Senador sa kanyang pagtakas.

Dapat panagutin ang nasa hari ng buong sistema ng pasismo, korapsyon, at kawalang-pananagutan: si Bongbong Marcos. Sa ilalim ng kanyang pamumuno, patuloy na ligtas ang mga kriminal sa pamahalaan.

Tuluy-tuloy na kikilos ang taumbayan para sa hustisya, at tungo sa pagwawakas ng buong sistema ng burukrata-kapitalismo.

A day before the Senate is set to formally convene as an impeachment court for twice-impeached Vice President Sara Duterte, civil society coalition Tindig Pilipinas on Sunday held a “Mass for Peace and Accountability” at the EDSA Shrine.

Among those in attendance was Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña, who urged the Senate to immediately convene the impeachment court and ensure that the trial proceeds toward accountability following what he described as a chaotic week in the chamber.

“Ngayong nakadapa ang reputasyon ng institusyon, mas lalong dapat igiit ng Senado ang konstitusyunal nitong layunin na litisin ang kaso ng Bise Presidente. Kailangan bumawi ng Senado sa taumbayan. Dapat sumikat ang araw ng pananagutan laban sa isang linggong pang-aabuso at kaguluhan,” Cendaña said.

Cendaña also called on the public to closely monitor the impeachment proceedings and prevent unnecessary delays. “Ang kaguluhan nitong linggo ay hindi lamang tungkol kay Senador Bato Dela Rosa, ito’y tiyak na may kaugnayan rin sa impeachment proceedings laban kay Vice President Sara. After all, who benefits the most from the chaos?” he said, adding: “Kung nakatakas si Senador Bato gamit ang kaguluhan, huwag nating hayaang makatakas si Sara sa proseso ng pananagutan.”

The gathering was also attended by members of the House prosecution panel led by ML Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima and Iloilo 3rd District Rep. Lorenz Defensor, alongside student leaders from Akbayan Youth Student Council Alliance of the Philippines (SCAP), and patriots Philippines as well as representatives from various religious and sectoral groups.
