📍𝗗𝗮𝘆 8 | 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘀

Today marks the eighth and final day of the June 2026 Geotagging and Documentation of Fishing Gears and Aquaculture Farms within the Batan Estuary Tributaries in New Washington, Aklan.

For Day 8, the field teams continued their geotagging, inspection, and documentation activities in the remaining areas of the estuary. The team exerted every effort to cover and complete all target sites within the scheduled period. However, due to the significant number of fishing gears and aquaculture farms operating throughout the Batan Estuary, some areas and structures still require validation and documentation.

Recognizing the importance of establishing a comprehensive and accurate database, the team is planning a succeeding activity to continue and complete the geotagging and documentation of all existing fishing gears and aquaculture farms within the estuary.

This initiative is being implemented under the leadership of Mayor Atty. Shimonette P. Francisco and spearheaded by the Fisheries Management and Regulatory Unit, with the active participation of the Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (MFARMC), the Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries, Bantay Dagat members, and the valuable assistance of the OJT students from the University of the Philippines Visayas College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (UPV-CFOS).

The information gathered will serve as an important foundation for fisheries management, resource monitoring, policy implementation, and the sustainable management of fisheries and aquaculture resources in the Municipality of New Washington.

The Municipal Government extends its sincere appreciation to all fisherfolk, aquaculture operators, partner agencies, and stakeholders who supported and cooperated throughout these two weeks field activity.

Biosecurity is the only effective defense against African Swine Fever (ASF). Because the virus is highly resilient and spreads rapidly through direct contact, contaminated feed, and human movement, strict on-farm/backyard hygiene prevents the disease from entering a herd. Implementing measures can avert the majority of livestock losses.

Today marks the seventh day of the Geotagging and Documentation of Fishing Gears and Aquaculture Farms within the Batan Estuary Tributaries in New Washington, Aklan.

For Day 7, the field teams continued the geotagging and documentation activities in the waters of Lawa-an and Barangay Tambak. The activity focused on gathering and validating geographic coordinates and relevant information on existing fishing gears and aquaculture structures within the estuary to ensure accurate and updated records.

This initiative is being implemented under the leadership of Mayor Atty. Shimonette P. Francisco and spearheaded by the Fisheries Management and Regulatory Unit, with the active participation of the Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (MFARMC), the SB Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries, Bantay Dagat members, and the valuable assistance of the OJT students from the University of the Philippines Visayas College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (UPV-CFOS).

The data gathered will support fisheries management, monitoring, policy implementation, and the proper documentation of fishing gears and aquaculture structures within the municipality.

For Day 6, one team conducted geotagging and documentation activities within the waters of Lawa-an, while the other team simultaneously covered Barangay Tambak. The activity continues to gather and validate geographic coordinates and relevant information on existing fishing gears and aquaculture structures within the estuary.

As of Day 5, the team has completed the geotagging and documentation of fishing gears and aquaculture farms along the Lagatik River, covering the area from the Port of Poblacion to Barangay Fatima, including the adjacent districts in Pinamuk-an.

The activity is being implemented under the leadership of Mayor Atty. Shimonette P. Francisco and spearheaded by the Fisheries Management and Regulatory Unit, with the active support and participation of the Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (MFARMC), SB Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries and Bantay Dagat members.
