MEET OUR NEW DIRECTOR / The Department of Agriculture - Caraga welcomes its new Regional Executive Director.
Engr. Ricardo M. Oñate, Jr. was appointed as the OIC-Regional Executive Director of the Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office XI in July 2016 and became the full-fledged Regional Executive Director in August 2019 by Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar.
"Sir B**g" as fondly called by colleagues finished his formative education from grade school and high school, as well as his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering degree from the Ateneo de Davao University, Davao City.
He started his career in a private banana corporation in Davao Region. He then transferred to the public sector particularly the Department of Agriculture - Region XI and rose from the ranks while he immersed himself in various agricultural development programs in Davao Region particularly in implementing rural infrastructure projects, postharvest facilities, and farm machinery.
At the helm of DA-XI, he took the lead in implementing various agricultural innovations to make significant contributions in attaining the Department's twin goals of a food-secure and resilient Philippines with prosperous farmers and fisherfolk.
He lead in initiating various agricultural programs in the region such as the "Mekanikong Mag-uuma" which developed a pool of farmer-mechanic that sustains maintenance and operations of farm machinery particularly in remote areas; the expansion of Rice Processing Complex to promote value-adding rice production, promoting sustainable and inclusive projects among Indigenous communities.
A staunch advocate of the "whole of the nation" approach in governance, Director Oñate, maintains a strong collaboration and partnership with local government units and key stakeholders in agriculture.
Caraga Region welcomes Director Oñate with full support and commitment in attaining a Masaganag Ani at Mataas an Kita.
