After careful consideration and in recognition of the need to safeguard the continuity of education, classes at all levels shall resume tomorrow, August 25, 2026. Government work shall likewise resume.

While the suspension of classes was necessary to ensure the safety of our learners, teachers, and personnel, the prolonged disruption has also affected the continuity of learning. With due consideration of the prevailing conditions, it is now necessary to resume classes and government work, while remaining vigilant and guided by official safety advisories.

This decision was made after due consideration, striking a careful balance between public safety and the urgent need to continue the education of our learners and the delivery of essential government services.

We urge everyone to remain vigilant and responsible. Let us continue to prioritize safety while ensuring that learning and public service move forward.

โ€œWalang Pasokโ€, โ€œClass Suspendedโ€โ€” Recently, these were the words spreading in every studentโ€™s feed. We wait for it, we share it, and we celebrate it. But behind excitement, class suspensions do more harm than good, and that is our reality. To what extent are they being implemented?

We all know that suspensions are being implemented because of the heavy rains due to typhoons and monsoons enteting our nation. Here in Abra, Provincial Government, LGUs, and DepEd announce them through social media and radio. But I believe that cancellation of classes is not the best solution. Yes, it is for our safety but there are reasons why it does more bad than good.

First, learning loss. Every โ€œWalang Pasokโ€, means lessons are skipped. One missed topic leads to confusion in the next topic. Because of this, when classes resume, teachers are forced to rush. They fill the gaps just to finish lessons before exams. We donโ€™t have time to understand every lesson, we only have time to copy and memorize. As a result, we are not just losing knowledge, but also peace of mind.

Second, inadequate resources. Though there is ADM ir Alternative Delivery Mode, it is not enough. Not every student has the privilege to access activities through online classes or google classrooms. In every remote area, slow internet is common. Moreover, when it is raining, power interruptions are possible. Without modules, gadgets, and electricity, students cannot learn at homeโ€”which results to unequal opportunity.

Lastly, increased of pressure and anxiety. Class suspensions do not really give us rest or leisure time. Once we return to school, we were piled up with activities, quizzes, and projects. Which can lead us to cramming, waking up late, and worrying.

Some may argue that class suspensions are okay because we have ADM. They say we can still learn at home even during floods. However, ADM is not enough. In Abra, many areas experience flooding, power interruptions, and no internet during typhoons. Not all students receive modules on time, and not all students have mobile phones to use. So while ADM exists on paper, in reality many students are still left behind.

Therefore, I believe that suspending classes if not necessary is not the best solution. It causes more harm to students. It leads to many bad for students. It damages our education, it provides unequal opportunity to learn, and it increases our stress.

For the first time in years, the Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2026 pageant was held in the morning, kicking off the NANHS Intramurals 2026 on August 15 at the Brgy. Lam-ag Gym.

Anchored on this yearโ€™s One Piece-inspired theme, โ€œSail. Strive. Soar.โ€, eight pairs representing the four teams competed in the Production Number, Pirates Attire, Sports Attire, and Magic Words Question and Answer segments.

The pageant may have been the simplest in recent years, with no gowns and talents in the lineup, yet grand in its own way, as it brought together notable names in pageantry and the beauty industry in Abra. Serving as the Selection Committee were Ms. Abra 2026 runners-up Dharlen Gyf Duque and Judeah Cynthia Wandasan, Ms. Tinggian 2026 Christine Advincula, returning former NANHS educator Reyna Maricon Guzman, and queen maker, hairstylist, and makeup artist Arjay Molina as chair.

After the preliminary segments, the Top 4 pairs advanced to the final round, where they faced a common question and were evaluated on intellecte and Poise and Presence.

Emerging as the new titleholders were Rein Marc Jarvis Caray and Iya Janel Narciso of Team Zoro, crowned Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2026. Ronald Valmonte Jr. of Team Sanji and Danica Mendoza of Team Zoro were named First Runners-Up; Jeremie Galvan of Team Sanji and Iriz Borda of Team Nami, Second Runners-Up; and Christ Winsli Crisologo of Team Nami and Trixie Ann Claor of Team Sanji, Third Runners-Up.

The pageant was made possible by joined effort of the administration headed by Principal III Brenda Bose, NANHS alumnus Geoffrey Cambi and generous sponsors.
