Peru Adventure Colca Canyon ascent total 1200 meters up from Sangalle up to Cabanaconde by Mule! My knees were sore from previous day’s descent so had decided to ride the mule going up We started at 5:30 AM still dark. This was the scariest thing I have ever done in my life. The owner of the mule does not speak a word of English so he just helped us hitched up the mule without any instructions, what to do how to shift body weight etc😱my mule started galloping up the steep gravelly narrow path while the others were still being prepared to get hitched up their their mule. With adrenaline rushing I managed to keep calm and focused on riding and ignored the cliff edge whenever the mule got too close to it, ducked as low as I can whenever we passed under hanging bushes. I was so relieved to see other members of our group along the path who opted to walk up. They started an hour earlier. It took us 1.5 hours to climb, reaching the top of the cliff I was never so grateful to be alive, hugging my dear husband happy to be safe in his arms😍.

Peru Adventure : condor viewing and descent down to one of the the deepest canyons on earth the Colca Canyon. From Cabanaconde (3278m) down to Sangalle oasis (2100 m) Crossing rivers as bridges are broken made it even harder. An area of natural beauty tough hike but worth it.

Peru Adventure:Lake Titicaca island of Amantani and a former prison Island of Taquila. Spent one night in a homestay in Amantani where we climbed the Pachatata ceremonial centre. Visited the Island of Taquila the 2nd day which was inhabited by Pukaras pre Inca. Now it is Unesco protected area.

Peru Adventure: Pacha-mama Offering (thanking Mother Earth) Pachamama ceremony consists of: flower bath for energy, calling the spirits for the 7 chakras and making wishes and finally offering to the pachamama. This is a ritual performed by a shaman in a sacred site. Very interesting and I must say I enjoyed the experience very much.

Perù Adventure: Sacred Valley Maras (salt mines) and Moray (Incas agricultural laboratory). Ca 600 local families exploit this salt pool areas. Each time a member of a family gets married another new pool is built. In Moray (at ca 3500 m altitude) circular terraced depressions are birliebed used as laboratories for experimenting what kind of crops will thrive well at different level with different microclimate. It is an evidence of the Incas expertise in agriculture. The deepest terrace is 30 m deep. In one of the photos here is a tree whose bark the Incas must have used to record stuffs. We visited one of the famous drink shops the Chicheria in the area. Chicha is a maiz fermented drink. We also visited local weavers and learned the process of creating yarns from baby alpaca from coloring the fibers to weaving.

Peru Adventure : Macchu Picchu - climbing Huayna Pucchu’s Stairs of Death (altitude 2693m) some says 1200 steps to the summit. Wayna Pikchu or Huayna Picchu is the tall mountain behind Macchu Picchu (see 1st photo). When my dear husband asked me if I wanna climb it I said ‘“Hell NO! It is a vertical wall !!”
One is rewarded with a magnificent view of the Macchu Picchu on top.

Perù adventure: Food journey Lima and Cuzco regions. Braved tasting the famous Inca food the cuy. The lomo saltado is also good. We enjoyed the different types and preparations of corns, but we love most the ceviche. The 1st photo shows few of the hundred types of potatoes. The Peruvian cuisine is one of the best in the world using freshest ingredients.

Ollantaytambo the fortress of the Incas. Some drone shots of very ancient town where many buildings are built during the Inca period. Very lively piazza where nearly traditional daily events take place. The lively cafes and restos where one can enjoy the Pisco sour national drink.

Pictures showing a few of important UNESCO protected buildings, my favorite being the old biblioteca of st Francis and some interesting sights and art works. Great to see the Pacific Ocean from Miraflores
