Inclusive Greens of Aotearoa New Zealand

Inclusive Greens of Aotearoa New Zealand Inclusive Greens is the 'lived experience" disability network of Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand. We honour our members' intersecting identities.

Haere mai / Wecome to the public page of the Inclusive Greens. We are the Green Party's disability network, led by and for everyone within the Green Party who self-identifies as disabled or Deaf, including people living with chronic illness or mental illness or who are neurodivergent. On this page, we openly share perspectives from the network relevant to the disability community, allies,

MPs and the wider public. Please like the page and join in the conversation with your thoughts in the comments. Disabled members of the Green Party of Aotearoa NZ are welcome to join our network. If you have questions about joining the Green Party or Inclusive Greens, just message the page and we'll be happy to help you out! The Inclusive Greens aim to be a safe place for us as disabled people to share our perspectives or experience on any part of Green Party participation, policy or politics that connects to disability, access or inclusion. Through our leadership, we want to work with members in all areas of the Party to deeply understand and uphold disability rights and strive for full accessibility and inclusion. Our work is founded on the Green Party's charter and values especially honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and our own lived experience. Together, members of our Network form a community with the power to drive political change,

We challenge ableist policies, behaviours and attitudes, including those we've been taught to hold ourselves. We also recognise and challenge racism, xenophobia, classism, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of harmful thinking. These engrained forms of thinking hurt us as individuals and as a group or collective. If we notice people not respecting this within our network or on our public-facing social media pages, we will firstly offer constructive feedback. Anyone showing persistent disrespect of this kaupapa won't be able to participate.

Kia ora,

The government is looking to review and take away people's backdated ACC payments as part of benefits. This will affect disabled people immensely.

Unfortunately they also have given us only a day to respond.

Please submit something immediately tonight until 12am when submissions close.

Here is how to submit, here is the link to make your submission:

Heed this:

Landslides can happen quickly, and without warning, even after the heavy rain has passed.

Please stay vigilant and watch for the natural warning signs, as you'll need to act quickly if you see them:
- Small slips, rock falls, and sinking land, at the bottom of slopes.
- Sticking doors and window frames, which may mean the land is slowly moving under the building.
- Gaps where window frames are not fitting properly.
- Steps, decks, and verandas, moving or tilting away from the rest of the building.
- New cracks or bulges on the ground, road, footpath, retaining walls and other hard surfaces.
- Tilting trees, retaining walls, or fences.

Get out of the path of the landslide quickly. Evacuate if the building you are in is in danger.

Meri Kirihimete to you all from the Inclusive Greens!

This year has been truly devastating to us with the welfare cuts for young disabled people - especially in the te ao Māori, creating a lot of new mamae atop old ones - and equipment & service cuts from the current coalition government, however, like always, we persist.

This year also has been a year of joy and repose. We have had the joy of having a couple of people from the Inclusive Greens network run for political office such as Elle Abel and Jonty Carroll.

We have seen the rise of young Inclusive Green members as well. They are part of our future and we hope to see them at our meetings. And since we have been through such trials and tribulations, it is our hope that we will rest well to galvanise ourselves for next year's battles.

We will be together in the face of adversity and we will persist through to a new era in Aotearoa New Zealand.

May you have a wonderful summer ahead of you all.

Meri Kirihimete me te Hape Nū Ia!
Merry Christmas and New Year!

International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a day that is promoted by UN every year since 1992 to promote a world that is accessible to all without limits.

We have had Inclusive Green (IG) members involved in campaigns related to immigration law, health, support services, welfare and housing.

We have had current IG members involved in running for office like Jonty Carroll, Elle Abel, Neelu Jennings and next year we hope to have a greater presence in politics and at all levels of societal decision making.

We have had working relationships with MPs and with groups within the Green Party and outside it and all of it has been wonderful and productive.

This is just a silver of our mahi and our korero within the Green Party and the world.

Hopefully we can get on with the mahi and get the change of the government next year so we can give effect to Te Tiriti and live in a more inclusive society that accepts UNCRPD guidelines.
