Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Forecast: These severe thunderstorms are moving towards the south, and are expected to lie near KAIAUA, MARAMARUA, FIRTH OF THAMES, MIRANDA and THE HUNUA RANGES at 12:45 am and near HUNTLY, MARAMARUA, TE KAUWHATA, OHINEWAI, WAITERIMU, WAERENGA and TANIWHA at 01:15 am.

These thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by torrential rain.

Impact: Torrential rain can cause surface and/or flash flooding about streams, gullies and urban areas, and make driving conditions extremely hazardous.

The National Emergency Management Agency advises that as storms approach you should:
- Take shelter, preferably indoors away from windows;
- Avoid sheltering under trees, if outside;
- Get back to land, if outdoors on the water;
- Move cars under cover or away from trees;
- Secure any loose objects around your property;
- Check that drains and gutters are clear;
- Be ready to slow down or stop, if driving.
During and after the storm, you should also:
- Beware of fallen trees and power lines;
- Avoid streams and drains as you may be swept away in flash flooding.

Issued: 12:29am Sun, 29 Jan

This is madness! And our new Waerenga-Whitikahu ward councillor is calling it “great news”? Auckland has shown that lowering speed limits does not have a positive impact on making safer roads, the problem is not the speed - it’s the condition of our roads.

We wouldn’t have voted for this… Instead, we would’ve voted for improving our processes in contracting people to maintain our roads so that it was done right and not just a money-making exercise.

You know what to do next time, vote North Waikato Whakapai for

Speed limit signs are now being changed throughout the district.

They’re being changed after councillors adopted the latest round of proposed amendments to the Speed Limit Bylaw 2011 earlier this year.

Roads with lower limits have been done in Matangi, Huntly, Raglan, Gordonton and the very north of our district.

Crews are now going through Ngaruawahia and Tuakau. Taupiri and Pokeno are due to be started tomorrow.

Last sign coming down now… What a campaign!

Thanks so much to all my supporters, my legendary campaign team, my family and of course - you! Our fabulous communities!!

Regardless of the result tomorrow, this experience has been incredible and unforgettable - it’s been an honour and privilege to be able to meet with or reconnect with so many amazing people across our Waerenga-Whitikahu ward, all doing outstanding stuff to make our communities the place it is.

To Matt & Di, Denise & J, Grant & Trish, Kulthum, Helen, Rosemary, Jacqui, Kristan, Hayley, Jarrod, Casey, Dean, Caitlin and everyone else who has helped me along the way - you all should be proud of where we have got, you guys are the best team I could ever ask for 🙏

This is the last campaign post you’ll see from me for this campaign, but we will be live-streaming a post-election speech late tomorrow afternoon/evening on this page… So keep an eye out for that!

Until then, the only 2 things that’s left to say are;

1. If you’ve not yet voted, go to the library tomorrow before 12pm and vote for Tremayne Thompson for Waerenga-Whitikahu ward councillor
2. THANK YOU!! 💙
