Probably the largest group we have had entering citizenship. Proud moment for them all and a privilege to support Mayor John Funnell in this special ceremony. Well done to Corn Bruckner for her amazing organization... again!

At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month... was a pleasure to join those from the Taupo RSA and friends at the Armistice Day commemoration this morning at the cenotaph. Photo with Pam McLeod after the service.

Another election over. I know everyone has been posting on the results and commenting on what the future holds. Well done to John Funnell on being elected mayor of the Taupo District. I look forward to working with and supporting him in that role.
Thankyou to all those who have supported me during this time. I take nothing for granted and appreciate the support of those who have put me back at the council table. You will get my full commitment for the next 3 years.
I want to acknowledge all of those who put their hand up to stand for council... not an easy job.
Finally I acknowledge our out going mayor David Trewavas. He has committed many years in service to this district both as mayor and on council before that. Thankyou for your service!

The countdown is on and in this last week before this local election cycle closes I want to encourage all of you who haven't voted to do so. In many countries people greatly value the fact they even have a vote while many of us take that right for granted. Don't be one of those. Have your say locally while you still can. This is an update video on what I perceive as inevitable changes looming for councils. We are up over 30% voter turnout, which is higher than at the same time in the last 3 elections. You have until mid day Saturday to have your say.

Like you we chose to live here because Taupo is a great place to live. As at yesterday 2 Oct nearly 27% of eligible voters have had their say. Polling closes on Saturday 11th Oct. Be sure to have your say on the future of the district we all call home.

There's been lots of talk about having a plan for the future and what are you going to do if you get back round the table. Well here's part of my answer to that. Remember whatever anyone promises they are still only one voice at the table.

I have already posted about rates affordability, so this video is an update with a slightly different take on this issue. Please note I quote an average increase of 8.5% early in the video, this should be 8.4%. For those interested here is a link to where I have sourced these figures from. https://www.taxpayers.org.nz/rates_dashboard_2025

Worth noting the NZ Taxpayers Union is focused on government accountability and not necessarily favorably disposed to councils.

Here's a brief overview of some of the things I've been up to on council over the last few years.

This has been a very busy three years as deputy mayor. My nature does not allow me to do things half baked, so if I'm in, I'm all in.

I talk in the video about some of the big ticket items I've been involved in these last three years. Added to that has been the consultation and delivery of a refresh of several chapters of the Taupo District Plan, a panel member on the Motutere Reserve Management Plan refresh, part of the steering group for the project looking at the northern access (Control Gates Bridge) and a range of other day to day business items.

It has been a busy time that I have enjoyed working on your behalf. With your support I wish to continue that work,

Most people will have by now received their voting papers. You will be able to read what candidates have said about themselves in their profile statements. Many people are asking for more information about candidates. So over the next few days I will be adding to the videos I have already posted so you can get a better idea of what I bring to the table.
