We are incredibly proud to announce that Will Collins-Lowe and Mokoia Hall-Tiepa have been selected to representing New Zealand Maori at the inaugural IFMA School World Muaythai Championships in Malaysia this June.

This historic event is the first-ever school-age Muaythai World Championship, held under the International School Sport Federation (ISF), bringing together talented young athletes from around the globe. It is an incredible opportunity for Will and Mokoia to compete on the world stage, gain international experience, and represent both their country and our school with pride.

We wish them all the very best as they prepare for this exciting challenge. Go well, Will and Mokoia!

Following their outstanding achievement of placing 2nd at the Smokefree Rockquest regional finals, Dead Tie Society spent Wednesday 3 June recording their submission for the national finals.

It was a fantastic day, with the students gaining valuable experience in what it is like to record live music in a professional setting. Opportunities like these are an important part of the musical journey, helping students develop both their performance and recording skills.

The band's national finals submission has now been sent away, and we eagerly await the results, which will be announced on 27 July.

We wish Dead Tie Society the very best of luck and congratulate them on everything they have achieved so far.

The Manawatū Art Teachers Association and Square Edge Community Arts Palmerston North are proud to present Ko Wai Au?, an exhibition showcasing the artwork of young people from across the region, with a particular focus on Manawatū secondary school students.

Our students have a number of stunning artworks featured in the exhibition, which will be on display from 4 June to 24 June at the Square Edge Community Arts Gallery, located at 47 The Square, Palmerston North.

There is no entry fee, and everyone is welcome. You may even find your next statement piece, although not all artworks are for sale.

We hope to see you there!

A special mention goes to Denise Pio, Head Girl 2025, whose artwork is featured on the event poster below.

The Level 3 Ako Tū-ā-nuku class ventured to Tūrangi and Taupō for their final camp at Rangitīkei College.

On the first evening, the group enjoyed a walk along the Tongariro River in Tūrangi before staying at Motuoapa Holiday Park. The following day, students brought their rock climbing lessons from the classroom to life, practising belaying, climbing, and bouldering. They then headed to Taupō for a walk to Huka Falls, followed by a hot swim to soothe tired muscles before round two.

On the final day, students returned to the Tūrangi Climbing Gym for their assessment. There were a few tears, shaky legs, and plenty of high fives as students completed their climbs.

Many of our rangatahi persevered through their fears, showed aroha to people they may not usually connect with, and demonstrated respect for one another and the environments we visited. It was a fantastic way to finish their time in the programme and a credit to an exceptional year group.

Recently, students from across the region took part in an art competition run by Te Koutuku Hauora and Ngāti Apa. The challenge was to create an artwork that portrayed the F.A.S.T. acronym, which is used to help identify the signs and symptoms of a stroke.

We are proud to acknowledge the students who represented Rangitīkei College in this competition. A special congratulations to Whitney Raikes, who was awarded first place in her category. We also celebrate the creativity and effort of Jayda Lawson and Mahziah Kaa, whose artworks showcased both artistic talent and an important health message.

We’ve had a busy and successful two weeks of career-focused events, beginning with the Rangitīkei Careers Expo hosted by Ngāti Apa, which was attended by our Year 10 and 11 students.

The RYDA Workshops were also hosted by Ngāti Apa, where our Year 12 students learned about the physics behind stopping distances and speed, and heard about the consequences of unsafe road use as both drivers and passengers.

We finished the week by taking our Year 12 and 13 students to the biannual Whanganui Careers Expo, where they explored career opportunities and connected with various tertiary providers and organisations.

The weather was fantastic, and the experiences were well worthwhile. A huge thank you to the event organisers and staff who supported all of these events.
