Eurasian Chaffinch (male); "Pahirini"
Eurasian Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs), යනු නවසීලන්තයේ වඩාත් සුලබ හා වඩාත් පුළුල් ව පැතිරුණු පක්ෂියා වන අතර ෆින්ච් පවුලේ කුඩා පැසරීන් පක්ෂීන් මුහුදු මට්ටමේ සිට මීටර් 1400 දක්වා පුළුල් පරාසයක දන්නට ලැබේ. ඔවුන් බොහෝ වෙරළබඩ දූපත් වලට ස්වයං ව පැතිරී තිබේ. Chaffinch බොහෝ විට නාගරික උද්යානවලට, විශේෂයෙන් ශ්රීත ඍතුවේ දී සංචාරය කරන අතර, අනෙක් කුරුල්ලන් සමඟ, තණකොළ මත ආහාර සොයමින් සැරිසරන ආකාරය බොහෝ විට දන්නට ලැබේ. පිරිමි සතා නිල්-අළු පැහැති තොප්පියක් සහ යටි පෙදෙස මලකඩ-රතු පැහැයෙන් දීප්තිමත් වර්ණවලින් යුක්ත වේ. ගැහැණු සතා අඳුරු පැහැයක් ගන්නා නමුත් ස්ත්රී පුරුෂ දෙපාර්ශවයට ම එකිනෙකට වෙනස් සුදු පියාපත් තීරු දෙකක් සහ වලිගය යට සුදු පැති ඇත. පිරිමි පක්ෂියාට ශක්තිමත් හඬක් ඇති අතර සහ කරුවෙකු ආකර්ෂණය කර ගැනීම සඳහා නිරාවරණය වූ perches වලින් ගායනා කරයි.
Eurasian Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs), Pahirini is the commonest and most widespread of New Zealand’s and small passerine birds in the finch family is found in a wide range of habitats from sea-level to 1400 m. They are self-introduced to many offshore islands. Chaffinches frequently visit suburban gardens, especially in winter, and are often seen feeding with house sparrows and silvereyes around bird-tables, on lawns and in parks. The male is brightly coloured with a blue-grey cap and rust-red underparts. The female is more subdued in colouring, but both sexes have two contrasting white wing bars and white sides to the tail. The male bird has a strong voice and sings from exposed perches to attract a mate.
