Closing a transformative chapter toward inclusive and sustainable electricity access in Madhesh Province!

The Closing Event of all TA projects under ADB TA 6526 NEP: South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Power Transmission and Distribution System Strengthening Project (PTDSSP), including “Implementation Support for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion” implemented by ENERGIA/Hivos in partnership with CRT/N and NACEUN, was successfully held on 20 May 2026 in Kathmandu.

Over the course of the project, together with our valued partners, we worked to strengthen GESI institutionalization within the Nepal Electricity Authority while supporting women and disadvantaged communities to access and use energy safely, efficiently, and productively.

Over the course of the project:

1. 442 entrepreneurs were trained and mentored; with dropout percentage of less than 10%
2. 203 job seekers received skills training across 28 trades
3. More than 757,000 people were reached through awareness campaigns
4. 1,327 households accessed safe and formalized electricity connections; among which 1,300 facilitated for free-meter connection
5. 481 households adopted induction cookstoves

The project stands as a holistic model toward building GESI-responsive energy services, and gender-transformative productive use of electricity and inclusive electricity access.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all partners, stakeholders, communities, and participants whose collaboration and commitment made this initiative possible. Together, we continue to advance equitable and sustainable energy access for all.

A significant step toward Nepal’s green industrial future has officially begun.

The National Level Inception Workshop of the Powering Nepal’s Green Industrial Future (POWER-GIF), held on 19 May 2026, officially launched a transformative initiative supported by the Government of Norway that aims to accelerate Nepal’s transition toward a low-carbon, climate-resilient, and industrialized economy.

Formally inaugurated by Her Excellency Ms. Dagny Mjøs, Ambassador of Norway to Nepal, the workshop brought together high-level representatives from government agencies, development partners, academia, industry, and the private sector to strengthen collaboration for Nepal’s clean energy transition and industrial decarbonization.

Led by Centre for Rural Technology, Nepal (CRT/N) in consortium with Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), Center for Energy Studies (CES)/Tribhuvan University, and Ambidience Global Pvt. Ltd. (AmbiGlo), the Power-GIF initiative seeks to enhance the industrial capacity to promote industrial electrification and clean energy adoption to support Nepal’s vision for Green, Resilient, and Inclusive Development (GRID) strategy.

As Nepal moves toward a greener and more sustainable future, POWER-GIF represents more than a project; it is a collaborative commitment toward transforming industry, strengthening partnerships, and advancing a cleaner energy future for generations to come.

Today, we successfully completed the Consortium Signing and held our First Steering Committee Meeting, laying the groundwork for collaboration, governance, and impactful outcomes of the project "Powering Nepal's Green Industrial Future, Power-GIF" funded by Government of Norway. ⚡ Powering Nepal’s Green Industrial Future (Power-GIF) 🏭
Centre for Rural Technology Nepal (CRT/N), as the consortium lead, has signed an agreement with The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to productively utilize Nepal’s surplus electricity and accelerate the transition towards a green industrialization.
Together with consortium partners: Nepal Electricity Authority(NEA), Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), Center For Energy Studies-CES, IOE, TU, and Ambidience Global, the initiative will support green industrial growth aligned with Nepal’s GRID strategy, focused on the Birgunj-Simara Industrial Corridor.
By strengthening resilient energy infrastructure, promoting renewable and energy-efficient technologies, enabling digital transformation, and fostering a conducive financial ecosystem, Nepal can drive green industrialization, expand economy, and significantly increase domestic electricity consumption. 🌍
