Gautam Buddha Airport is a domestic hub airport in the Western Development Region. After the introduction of jet operation, the air traffic movement has increased substantially. CAAN has already begun to upgrade this airport as a regional international airport capable to serve medium sized jet aircraft. In consideration of its prospects due to the existence of Lord Buddha's birth place Lumbini, CAAN has introduced a plan to acquire additional plots of land to already accomplished acquisition of 62 bigha land for the development of Gautam Buddha Airport into regional international airport.
