Khaasti Chaitya, बौद्ध स्तुपा, Boudhanath Stupa

The earliest historical references to the Khaasti Chaitya are found in the Chronicles of the Newars. Firstly, Khaasti is mentioned as one of the four stupas found by the Licchavi king Vrisadeva (ca.AD 400) or Vikramjit. Secondly, the Newars legend of the stupa’s origin attributes it to king Dharmadeva’s son, Manadeva as atonement for his un writing parricide Manadeva was the great Licchavi king, military conqueror and the patron of the arts who reigned ca.AD 464-505. Manadeva is also linked with the Swayambhu Chaitya of Gum Bahal. Thirdly, another great Licchhavi king Shivadeva (AD 590-604) is associated with Boudha by an inscription; he may have restored the chaitya.

The Birth Place of Goddess Sita I Janaki Mandir I Janakpur I Nepal

The beautiful Janaki Mandir is a Hindu temple at the heart of Janakpur. Fully built in bright white, the temple is an example of perfect artistry. Constructed in an area of 4,860 sq. feet in a mixed style of Islamic and Rajput domes, the temple is 50 meters high. It is a three-storied structure made entirely of stone and marble. All its 60 rooms are decorated with colored glass, engravings, and paintings, with beautiful lattice windows and turrets.

The city of Janakpur, 225 km southeast of Kathmandu is doubly famous as the birthplace of the Hindu goddess Sita, as well as being the site where she was married to Lord Rama.

According to the Hindu epic, the Ramayana, the original city of Janakpur was named after King Janak of the Mithila kingdom. Janak found the baby Sita in a furrow of a field and raised her as his daughter. When Sita (also called Janaki) was about sixteen, the king announced that she could be married by whoever was able to string the divine bow of Shiva. Though many royal suitors tried, only Lord Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, was successful. And not only did he string the bow, he also snapped it in two. Thus, Lord Rama won the hand of Sita.

Rani Pokhari was destroyed in the disastrous earthquake of 2015.

History relates the pond to King Pratap Malla, the king of Kathmandu. When King Pratap Malla declared his son Chakravartindra Malla as his successor to the throne in 1709, a grand ceremony was observed to celebrate the occasion. Unfortunately, the elephant, on which the Crown Prince sat majestically, suddenly ran wild. The would-be-king lost his life. King Pratap Malla and his wife were in deep sorrow. The king recovered, but the queen couldn’t. Out of ideas, the king ordered for the pond to be dug to console his wife. After its completion, the queen visited the pond every evening. And so the pond became the Queen’s pond or Ranipokhari.
The inscriptions at the pond tell us that the king, after having consulted the priests fetched water to fill from many holy places of Nepal and India like Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gosaikunda, Muktinath, and Kaligandaki and so on. That is why; the Nepalese law forbids people from committing su***de in this pond even today.
The statues of King Pratap Malla and his family members south of the pond are worth a watch. And so is the Shiva temple situated amidst the temple.

Rani Mahal is a Rana palace located in the banks of Kali Gandaki River in Palpa district of Nepal. This palace was constructed by General Khadga Shumsher JBR in 1893.

In 1887 General Khadga Samsher Rana was forced to drop his royal titles and was sent to Palpa-Gauda as The Western Commander in Chief of Nepal. At Palpa-Gauda in 1892 Khadga Shumsher's beloved youngest wife Tej Kumari Devi died and within a year Khadga built a palace and named after his wife as Rani Mahal(Literary translates as Queens Palace). He also named the nearby forest as Rani Ban(Rani forest) along with naming the Ghats as Rani Ghat. In 1902 Khadga Samsher Rana along with his family fled from Nepal to India abandoning Rani Mahal which resulted in negligence of Rani Mahal and eventually this palace structure started crumbling.
