Holberg Prize The Holberg Prize is an international research prize awarded annually in the humanities, social sciences, law and theology.

The Holberg Prize is an international research prize awarded annually to a scholar who have made outstanding contributions to research in the humanities, social sciences, law and theology. The Prize has a value of NOK 6,000,000. The Nils Klim Prize is awarded annually to a young scholar from the Nordic countries under 35 years for outstanding contributions in the academic fields of the humanities,

social sciences, law or theology. The Prize ihas a value of NOK 500 000. The Holberg Prize School Programme is a research competition for students in upper secondary schools in Norway. 20 schools participate each year, and the three best entries are rewarded with prizes of NOK 30 000, NOK 20 000 and NOK 10 000 respectively. The Holberg Prize was established by the Norwegian Parliament 1 July 2003, and was awarded for the first time in 2004. The objective of the Prize is to increase awareness of the value of academic scholarship within the aforementioned fields. The Prize is named after the Danish-Norwegian writer Ludvig Holberg, who excelled in all of the disciplines covered by the award. Holberg played a crucial role in bringing the Enlightenment to the Nordic countries and in the modernisation of several academic disciplines and teaching methods.

"This question has particular salience now that we have seen the rise, and perhaps the waning, of right-wing political movements that aim to promote ‘family’ life, restrict abortion, and limit women’s freedoms. But when and why does controlling fertility and s*xuality become central to political agendas, and why do such ideas attract women as well as men?"
