Zuru Tragedy: KBSG Donates N10M To Parents Of Late Sisters

The Kebbi state government has donated the sum of Ten Million Naira to the parents of the two sisters who allegedly died as a result of drug misapplication at the General Hospital in Zuru.

The death of the two sisters, aged six and three, was reported to have occurred on the 18th of this month in circumstances said to have been as a result of negligence on the part of some nurses.

The two nurses alleged to have committed the act have already been arrested and are currently under investigation custody of the Police in Birnin Kebbi while investigation to unravel what truly happened continues.

In an attempt to demonstrate its seriousness on the matter, the Kebbi state government had set up a 9-man probe panel headed by the Commissioner of Information and Culture Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK. The Committee has since swung into action.

The donation of the N10 million, according to the Chairman of the Investigation Committee, was necessitated by the desire of the state government to assist the family in dealing with the trauma of the tragedy. Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed, who spoke at the handing over of the money at the Emir’s Palace in Zuru yesterday, remarked that the money was not meant to totally assuage the parents feeling of loss.

He said no amount of money will replace the irreparable loss, but hoped that the gesture will go a long way to give some sense that the family had not totally been neglected.

The Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Mohammed Sanusi Mikailu Sami, urged the parents to continue to see their travail as an inescapable act of the Almighty Allah.

He commended Governor Nasir Idris for his relentless passion to help people in need and for taking immediate measures to deal with the deaths of the sisters.

He appealed to medical and other health workers to update their knowledge through constant training and retraining programs in order to continue to be
relevant in a fast changing world.

He warned that it is unacceptable for health workers to be so negligent as to endanger lives so recklessly.

Speaking in the company of other close family members, shortly before receiving the money on behalf of the family, Barrister Garba Abubakar Shehu expressed the gratitude of the family to the Governor for the support he has rendered and for ensuring that the matter is investigated to ensure that it does not happen again.

He said even though they have been grossly pained by the nature of the death, they take solace in the realization that no one dies until his time to go had come.

Signed:
Ahmad Hussaini Aliyu,
Media Aide To The Commissioner of Information and Culture,
Kebbi State.

The attack on GGCSS Maga in Danko Wasagu yesterday is heartbreaking and terrifying. Two innocent people were killed including the school’s Vice Principal and many school girls were abducted. As a citizen of Kebbi State, I am deeply unsettled by how insecurity is tightening its grip on our communities.

Just yesterday, Alaramma Ustadh Alqasim Usman Ibrahim was brutally killed by his abductors in Yauri. The cruelty, the boldness, and the frequency of these attacks show clearly that something fundamental is broken.

For too long, bandits have operated with confidence because our system has allowed them to. There is no strong political will to eliminate these criminal networks, no consistent strategy to protect our communities, and no clear plan to safeguard victims before or after tragedy strikes. We keep reacting when lives are already lost.

At a time when families are grieving, communities are displaced, and children are being taken away in the night, we must ask ourselves honest questions:

Does raising one or two fingers really matter now?
Can we even talk about conducting elections in 2027 when our towns are raided, our daughters kidnapped, and our people beheaded?

These are not normal times. The reality on ground demands sincerity, courage, and decisive leadership, not symbolism, not silence, and not politics as usual.

Kebbi people are peaceful and resilient, but we cannot continue to live under fear while bandits dictate the pace of our lives.

Our children deserve safety. Our teachers deserve protection. Our communities deserve respect. And our state deserves leadership that will act before tragedy, not after.

Allah Ka kawo mana agaji 😭

There is an escalation of insecurity challenges in Kebbi State, the authorities concern should step up. The recent killing of a custom officer in Bagudo last week, killing of islamic cleric in Yauri, killing of a teacher in Maga Girls Boarding School and abduction of many students and teachers, the arrest of suspected bandits along Tadurga-Zuru road all in the last 48 hours is a confirmation that insecurity challenges are getting out of hand in Kebbi state.
