The Gbarain Ladies in Politics Forum (GLIPF) today paid a condolence visit to Hon. George Bibian, Special Adviser to the Governor of Bayelsa State on Women in Politics.

It was a warm and memorable engagement with our respected senior stakeholder and elder sister, who, despite her moment of grief, took time to receive the delegation and encourage members of the Forum.

She charged the Forum to remain courageous, united, focused, and committed to promoting the participation and advancement of women in politics and leadership.

The Forum expressed its heartfelt condolences and prayed for God to grant her and the entire family the strength and comfort to bear the loss.

We appreciate her warm reception, wise counsel, and unwavering support for the growth and development of women in politics.

STATEMENT BY THE GBARAIN LADIES IN POLITICS FORUM

Women: Custodians of Culture, Builders of Community

The Gbarain Ladies In Politics Forum extends its warmest congratulations to the people of Gbarain Kingdom on the successful celebration of the 2026 Gbarain Uzu (Ayaburu Fi Uge) New Yam Festival, a remarkable cultural event that once again reaffirmed the unity, identity, and enduring heritage of our people.

The festival, which commenced on Tuesday, 15th July 2026, began with a Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ogboloma, followed by the Gbarain Unity Walk, where youths, women, elders, traditional rulers, community leaders, and stakeholders from across the kingdom marched together in a colourful display of peace, solidarity, and cultural pride. The celebration culminated in a grand finale on Saturday, 25th July 2026, attracting distinguished personalities from Bayelsa State and beyond.

As women of Gbarain Kingdom, we recognize that culture is not merely an annual celebration but the foundation upon which our identity, unity, values, and collective future are built. Throughout history, women have remained the foremost custodians of culture—raising children with the principles of integrity, discipline, respect, and communal responsibility while promoting peace, harmony, and sustainable development within families and communities.

The Gbarain Uzu Festival represents an enduring covenant between our people, our land, and Almighty God. It celebrates the blessings of harvest, honours the sacrifices of our forebears, strengthens the bonds among our communities, and reinforces our shared identity as one united Gbarain Kingdom. These timeless values must continue to be preserved and passed on from one generation to another.

The Forum commends the visionary leadership of His Royal Majesty, King Dr. Gabriel Funpere Akah, Ibenanaowei of the Ancient Gbarain Kingdom, whose unwavering commitment to preserving the customs, traditions, and cultural heritage of Gbarain Kingdom continues to inspire present and future generations.

We also appreciate His Royal Highness, Chief Reginald Akere Okoro, Paramount Ruler of Ogboloma Community, the Ogboloma Council of Chiefs, and the entire people of Ogboloma for successfully hosting this year’s festival with remarkable hospitality, excellence, and commitment.

Our profound appreciation equally goes to the Central Planning Committee, ably led by Chief Tuaweri Inemoye, for their dedication, coordination, and tireless efforts in delivering another successful and memorable edition of the festival.

The Forum also warmly congratulates His Highness, Barr. Osomkime Edwin Blankson, on his well-deserved conferment with the revered traditional title of Pinauwurau I of Gbarain Kingdom, alongside the Humanitarian Award presented by the Ogboloma Council of Chiefs. This honour reflects his unwavering dedication to humanitarian service, visionary leadership, and community development.

As women aspiring to provide purposeful leadership within our communities and beyond, we firmly believe that political participation must never be separated from cultural preservation. A woman who understands and values her heritage is better equipped to influence public policy, promote peace, strengthen families, mentor future generations, and advocate for sustainable community development. The enduring values of integrity, hard work, respect for elders, communal living, accountability, and selfless service remain indispensable pillars for building a prosperous society.

The Gbarain Ladies In Politics Forum therefore calls on every woman and girl across Gbarain Kingdom to embrace the sacred responsibility of preserving our language, customs, festivals, moral values, and peaceful coexistence. Let us continue to mentor the younger generation, support initiatives that promote our cultural identity, and actively participate in leadership that protects and advances the interests of our people.

True leadership is not determined by gender but by character, wisdom, and a willingness to answer God’s call. Deborah stands out in Scripture as a remarkable woman who combined spiritual insight with exceptional leadership during one of Israel’s most difficult seasons.

At a time when the nation lived in fear under oppression, Deborah did not remain silent. As a prophetess and judge, she guided the people with wisdom, settled disputes with fairness, and inspired Barak and the army of Israel to confront their enemies. Her confidence was not in human strength but in God’s promise, and through her leadership, Israel experienced victory and peace.

Deborah teaches us that effective leadership requires courage, sound judgment, faith, and the ability to inspire others. She did not seek leadership for personal recognition; she embraced responsibility because her people needed someone who would stand in the gap.

As members of the Gbarain Women in Politics Forum, Deborah’s life reminds us that women have an important role in nation-building and community development. Leadership demands preparation, integrity, resilience, and a heart committed to justice and service. Every woman who occupies a position of influence should strive to lead with fairness, humility, and wisdom, always placing the welfare of the people above personal ambition.

Our communities need women who will make informed decisions, encourage unity, mentor younger generations, and promote peace and development. Like Deborah, we are called to become voices of hope and agents of positive transformation wherever God places us.

NGOCC CONDEMNS THE PRODUCTION AND CIRCULATION OF OBSCENE MATERIAL ALLEGEDLY INVOLVING A SOCIAL MEDIA PERSONALITY.

The Non-governmental Gender Organisations' Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has noted with grave concern reports circulating on social media regarding obscene material allegedly produced by a named female social media personality. We wish to place on record our strongest condemnation of the production and circulation of such material, which is contrary to the law and the moral values our society holds dear.

As an organisation that champions the dignity, rights and wellbeing of women and girls, NGOCC is deeply troubled by the ease with which obscene content can be produced and spread across social media platforms. Such content often has devastating and lasting consequences for those involved particularly young people who may not fully appreciate the long-term impact of their actions.

We therefore call upon members of the public, particularly parents and guardians, to strengthen their role in guiding children and young people towards responsible conduct both online and offline. Families remain the first and most important foundation for nurturing values, discipline and responsible digital citizenship among young people.

NGOCC further urges men, and young women to uphold high moral decorum in all their conduct, both online and offline. The quest for fame and social media popularity should never be allowed to cloud judgement or lead to decisions that dent and destroy lives, reputations and future careers.

We urge the Zambia Police Service to swiftly and thoroughly investigate this matter and bring to book any persons found culpable, in accordance with the law. Perpetrators of such acts must be held accountable, as impunity only emboldens further violations of societal morals and, where applicable, the rights of those exploited.

As NGOCC we remain committed to working with all stakeholders, including law enforcement, parents, faith communities and civil society, to safeguard the moral fabric of our nation and protect the dignity of women, girls and all citizens.
