NEWS COMMENTARY......................................
The Arise With Renewed Hope Initiative is extending its reach beyond Akwa Ibom State with the official launch of its chapter in Calabar, Cross River State today, March 24, 2026.

Ubong Ekefre, a Deputy Director (Media) writes......................................

The historical relationship between Cross River State and Akwa Ibom State is rooted in the long-standing historical and cultural ties between the two neighbouring states.

Long before their political separation in 1987, the peoples of present-day Cross River and Akwa Ibom shared deep connections through trade, migration, and kinship, forming a closely linked socio-cultural landscape and shared deep cultural affinities through a common heritage, intermarriages and economic interdependence that continues to shape interactions today.

The expansion of the ye Arise With Renewed Hope Initiative into Cross River State, by the inauguration of a chapter in Calabar today, is both strategic and symbolic.

The inauguration is expected to attract a diverse cross-section of stakeholders, including community leaders, youth groups, women organisations, and supporters of the All Progressives Congress amongst the very large Akwa Ibom indigenous community in Calabar, most of who went home to register to vote in elections. Infact, at some point, the Akwa Ibom State Government encouraged Indigenes residing outside the state to get home, register to vote and be a conscious part of the leadership recruitment process in their home state.

Participants, led by the initiative's President General, Engr. Uwem Okoko, are expected to highlight the importance of sustained political support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, while aligning with the Renewed Hope agenda of the Federal Government and development priorities across the sub-region.
