IBIONO IBOM HOSTS OIL PALM TRAINING, CHAIRMAN COMMENDS GOV. UMO ENO’S AGRICULTURAL DRIVE
Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area on Friday, April 17, 2026 hosted a one-day training on modern oil palm cultivation techniques, organized in partnership with the Akwa Ibom Agricultural Development Programme (AKADEP), as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity in the area.
The training, held at the Council Hall, Oko-Ita, drew participants from across the LGA, including registered oil palm farmers, agribusiness leaders, cooperative heads, and individual farmers, all eager to acquire improved knowledge and skills in oil palm production.
Representing the Executive Chairman of Ibiono Ibom LGA, Rt. Hon. Obong Asuakak Umoh, the Senior Adviser on Political Matters, Mr. Inyene Udeme, expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, for his deliberate commitment to revitalizing the oil palm industry and the broader agricultural sector through the ARISE Agenda.
He noted that the initiative aligns seamlessly with the development priorities of the Ibiono Ibom Local Government administration, particularly in empowering rural farmers, enhancing food security, and creating sustainable economic opportunities.
The AKADEP team, led by Elder Uwemedimo Anana, Director in charge of Agribusiness, delivered practical sessions on best practices in oil palm nursery management, seedling handling, and modern cultivation techniques aimed at improving yield and profitability. Participants also engaged in interactive discussions, gaining clarity on key aspects of oil palm production.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting agricultural initiatives and providing an enabling environment for farmers to thrive, while encouraging participants to apply the knowledge gained for increased productivity.
The successful turnout and active participation at the training underscore the growing interest in agriculture as a viable pathway for economic growth and self-reliance in Ibiono Ibom LGA.
