NAAKISS LEADERSHIP: EDUCATION COMMISSIONER CONVENES PEACE MEETING
..as Students apex body agrees on election date

All is now well with Students community as the two warring factions of the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students( NAAKISS) Worldwide, have finally agreed to sheath their swords and give peace a chance for the common good of all Akwa Ibom State students.

This followed a peace meeting at the instance of the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet with the leadership of the two factions in Uyo on Thursday at the conference room of the Ministry.

Addressing the students, the Commissioner sued for love and peaceful co-existence amongst them devoid of rancour and bitterness which she said have been the hallmarks of Governor Udom Emmanuel's administration.

Mrs Etiebet while condemning the illegal formation of ELECO by one of the parties, admonished the two factions to work as a team.

She also called on all parties to respect and work with the current President , Comrade Aniedi Michael for smooth transition while calling on him to carry all parties along through inclusion in the formation of the Election Committee.

For perfect transition, modalities for NAAKISS election were spelt out while all parties agreed on date for conduct of election .

In their seperate responses, the President of NAAKISS, Comrade Aniedi Michael and Chairman of the disbanded ELECO, Comrade Michael Ayah, appreciated the motherly disposition of the Commissioner to bring to an end the lingering crisis and pledged to give peace a chance.

The Peace meeting also had in attendance, the Permanent Secretary, Lady Rose Bassey, Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Comrade Clifford Akwaowo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Education Monitoring, Akparawa Udeme Udofia, Directors of SEQUAS and SHE, Mrs Roseline Mfon and Dr Glory Ekpo respectively, as well as the immediate past Desk Officer, Student Affairs, Mr Selong Selong .

AGAIN,EDUCATION COMMISSIONER CALLS FOR CALM AS SHE INTERFACES WITH NAAKISS WORLDWIDE.
..Frowns at illegal constitution of electoral body

The State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet has met with NAAKISS Worldwide to initiate possible ways of resolving lingering leadership issues arising in the Students' body.

The Commissioner while interfacing with the two warring factions admonished them against taking the laws into their hands .

She frowned at reports making the rounds about certain individuals parading themselves as NAAKISS electoral body alleged to be selling forms to candidates aspiring for leadership position , adding that only appropriate actions that are in tandem with NAAKISS constitution would be validated.

Mrs Etiebet, reminded the students of Governor Udom Emmanuel's peaceful nature and the peace enjoyed in the State, and charged them to sustain that peace.

The Commissioner urged them while involving in school politics to also remember the main purpose of going to school which was to study to be great men and women of the society.

Present at the meetings were the Permanent Secretary, Lady Rose Bassey, Special Assistant to the Governor on Education Monitoring, Akparawa Udeme Udofia, Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Comrade Clifford Akwaowo,Director Secondary and Higher Education, Mrs Glory Ekpo , NAAKISS President, Comrade Aniedi Michaeland other NAAKISS Executives.

It would be recalled that a faction of NAAKISS had recently stormed the Ministry of Education where they met with the Commissioner and expressed disapproval over alleged tenure elongation of the present President of NAAKISS, Comrade Aniedi Michael whose tenure was said to have expired, calling for him to step down while election for new President be conducted.

AKWA IBOM STATE RANKS BEST IN PAYMENT OF WAEC FEES

Akwa Ibom State has been rated number one in the country for prompt payment of West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination fees over the years.

This was disclosed by the Zonal Coordinator of WAEC, Akwa Ibom Zonal office , Engr. A. Adebolu when he paid a courtesy visit on the Commissioner of Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, today in her office.

Engr. Adeboyi, stated that comparative analysis indicates that the State is always the first to settle WAEC fees every year and is not owing the organization , lauding the Akwa Ibom State Government for being responsible and responsive to the needs of students as well as the giant strides on Education sector.

The WAEC Boss also applauded the State Government for the infrastructural development especially good road network and the peaceful environment making transportion and distribution of examination materials to different centres across the State smooth.

He also commended the Commissioner of Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet for working assidously towards attaining great feat in WAEC performance noting that there was also a decline in examination malpractice in 2021.

Engr Adebolu disclosed that the organization has advanced in technology which has facilitated release of results 45 days after the last paper and certificate issuance 90 days after with the vision to make release of results same day after examination.

Responding, the Commissioner of Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, lauded WAEC for the innovations and particularly appreciated Uyo Zonal office for not only piloting the affairs of the organization effectively but also ensuring credible conduct of examination in the State.

State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel for his passion on Education noting that the huge investment in the Sector has yielded significant result as evidenced in the 79% success in 2021 WASSCE performance of students .

In attendance were the Directors of the Ministry, and other WAEC Staff.

SCHOOLS RESUMPTION: EDUCATION COMMISSIONER MONITORS ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES IN A'IBOM

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet has expressed displeasure over low turnout of students on resumption day as all private and public schools resume for second term.

Speaking during the exercise on Monday, the Education Boss who led the monitoring team of her Ministry to unscheduled visits to schools in Onna and Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas, noted that while some schools in those areas had substantial number of Teachers on ground, many students were yet to turn-up for classes.

Mrs Etiebet who stressed that it was imperative to hit the ground running as early commencement of classes would enable effective coverage of the syllabus, called on parents and guardians to release their children and wards to school.

Addressing Principals and Teachers of schools, the Education boss commended them for reporting for duty and complying with State Government's directive of holding pre-resumption meetings days before date resumption.

She also applauded the Teachers for working assiduosly towards the remarkable performance of students in the 2021 West African School certificate examination which recorded 79% success, encouraging them to work harder for the State to achieve the 90% success in 2022 as handed down by the State Government.

She announced the commencement of morning assembly in all primary and secondary schools beginning from Tuesday ,11th January,2022 to reawaken students consciousness on the need to be morally upright.

Interacting with the Students, the Commissioner admonished them to always draw closer to God, develop leadership skills, avoid cultism, premarital s*x, drug abuse and all forms of negative tendencies while focusing on their studies.

At Community Secondary Comprehensive school, Ikot Akpan Ishiet, Onna LGA, the Commissioner was received by the school Principal, Mrs Florence Akpan who conducted her and team round the school.

Mrs Akpan who spoke glowingly of the State Government's efforts in transforming the Education sub-sector, commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for the free and compulsory Education, noting that the regular payment of subventions has facilitated new projects like the construction of new sets of science laboratories, new assembly hall, public address system for the assembly and other laudable initiatives in the school.

She also appreciated the Commissioner for Education for the great job and pledged effective service delivery

At Qua Iboe Church Senior science school, Ndon Eyo Onna, an all boarding school, Principal and teachers were present without any visible academic activities, while some students were just returning to boarding house.

Reacting, the Commissioner frowned at such anomaly and tasked the Principal, Mr Nnamse Udofot to always ensure students return to school before designated date of resumption.

Mrs Etiebet also visited Community Secondary Comprehensive school, Ikot Ebiere, Onna and Okorita Comprehensive secondary school, Okorete Town, Eastern Obolo LGA .

In all schools visited, the Commissioner inspected notes of lessons, time tables and attendant registers where she directed that absentee teachers be sanctioned.

Meanwhile, other monitoring teams from the ministry led by the permanent Secretary and directors also embarked on schools resumption monitoring exercise in Ukanafun and Oruk Anam LGAs.

Schools visited include, Community Secondary school, Urua Ekpa Enang, Community Secondary school, Nkek, Western Annang Secondary Commercial school, and Community Secondary school, Afaha Obo all in Ukanafun Local Government Area.

QIC Secondary school, Ibesit, Oruk Anam LGA was another port of call.

EDUCATION COMMISSIONER SHOWS APPRECIATION TO GOD FOR A SUCCESSFUL YEAR.

It was an atmosphere for Praise and Thanksgiving as the Commissioner of Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet led Management and Staff of the Ministry on a Thanksgiving Service to mark the end of a successful year.

While addressing the staff, the Commissioner expressed joy in appreciation to God for His faithfulness to the Ministry and the Education sector at large throughout the year, noting that despite challenges 2021 has been a fruitful year.

Mrs Etiebet acknowledged the commitment of the Ministry's Management for the unflinching support to see that the vision of the Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel is made a reality in the Education sector of the State. She further thanked them for their cooperation and contributions which has made her succeed in the Sector.

Mrs Etiebet charged staff to strive further to maintain peace and unity in their working environment, and to developed a life of gratitude at all times, sharing the little they have to others and not forgetting that Christ is the reason for this season.

The Permanent Secretary, Lady Rose Bassey, also thanked God for His special protection to staff and their families throughout the year, she said that it is of great importance that everyone should give thanks to God for His gifts to mankind.

Lady Rose Bassey thanked the Commissioner for creating a smooth environment for workers to do their jobs diligently and prayed for a successful 2022.

In an exhortation, the preacher admonished Staff to imitate the footsteps of Zacchae'us in Luke 19:8 by showing restitution where they offend or oppress their fellow brethren, he said that in order to please God, one should pay the fruit of repentance.

Directors from different directorates led their Staff in a special thanksgiving to God, as they expressed themselves through singing and dancing in appreciation to God's blessing and sustenance in their departments.

High points of the service was cutting of birthday cake by the December celebrants and sharing of rice to all Staff for Christmas and New year celebration.

EDUCATION COMMISSIONER LED MINISTRY ON CONDOLENCE VISIT TO LATE RECTOR'S FAMILY

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, today Monday ,led top Management team of the Ministry of Education on a condolence visit to the family of the late Acting Rector of Akwa Ibom State College of Science and Technology,Nung Okim , Elder Vincent Essien ,to sympathize with them over his sudden demise.

The Commissioner who was accompanied on the visit by the Permanent Secretary, Lady Rose Bassey, Special Assistant to the Governor on Education Monitoring, Akparawa Udeme Udofia and Directors of the Ministry ,was received by the wife , children and extended family members of the deceased at his residence at Ibiaokpo Ikot Essen, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner described the late Elder Essien as an active and hardworking personality who helped to develop the Education sector as a seasoned Teacher, trained and impacted on students who are today great leaders in the society.

She called on the wife of the deceased to be strong in the Lord and be consoled by the good life of her husband, adding that God has promised to be the husband of the widow and father to the fatherless, while praying that such affliction of untimely death would never happen again in the family.

Mrs Etiebet assured of State Government and the Ministry's support during and after the funeral, praying God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss and the deceased peaceful rest in the bossom of the Lord.

Responding, the deceased wife, Mrs Victoria Essien appreciated the State Government, Commissioner and the Ministry for the love and support extended to her and the family during their period of grief .

Mrs Essien said her husband's death was a painful loss and least expected . She solicited further assistance from the State Government as an unemployed to enable her forge ahead and take care of herself and her young children.

The Chairman of the burial Planning Commitee, Prince Anthony Ikpeme in his remarks thanked the Ministry for standing by the family and sued for continued support.

Also at the event was the New Rector AKS Science and Technology, Elder Monday Udoudo and acting Registrar Dr. Samuel Oworene.

The visit featured prayer for the bereaved family, a minute silence in honor the deceased and signing of the condolence register.

The late Elder Vincent Essien who died in active service was until death the Acting Rector of Akwa Ibom State College of Science and Technology, Nung Okim Ikono. He would be laid to rest on Saturday, 11th December,2021.

AKS MINISTRY OF EDUCATION ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF 2021 WAEC RESULTS

The State Ministry of Education has announced the release of 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

The was contained in a Statement by the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet on Thursday, 2nd December,2021 following notification from the West African Examination Council ( WAEC) on release of results.

The Commissioner enjoined candidates who sat for the Examination and parents to check their results online.

Mrs Etiebet thanked the Education-Friendly Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel for placing Education at the front burner in his administration with huge investments on the sector.

She averred that continuous payment of WAEC fees for thousands of exiting students in Senior Secondary Schools in the State has provided succor to a lot of students whose parents could not afford to pay the examination fees, thus boosting their morale.

She congratulated students who are successful in the examination and wished them the best in their academic pursuits.

UNIUYO'S 86TH INAUGURAL LECTURE: GOVERNOR EMMANUEL CELEBRATES PROF PETER ESUH'S ACADEMIC MILESTONE

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel , on Thursday, joined the academic community of the University of Uyo, friends and well- wishers of the foremost Nigerian Professor of Marketing Communication and Applied Rhetoric, Prof Peter Esuh to felicitate him on the occasion of his inaugural lecture.

In his goodwill message at the 86th inaugural lecture of the University of Uyo, delivered by the erudite Don, Prof Peter Esuh with the theme," Persuading the Persuader: A Rhetoric-Semiotic Direction to Marketing Communications, held at the main campus of the institution, Governor Emmanuel lauded Prof Esuh's proficiency in Communication Arts.

Speaking through the State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, the Governor described the academic genius as " a lover of our dear State ,an intellectual giant,a Communication Strategist,moulder and mentor of men and women across national and international boundaries who are today adding value in different spheres, especially in Journalism and Strategic Communication".

He congratulated the eminent Professor on his giant feat and urged him to continue to utilize his mental and intellectual prowess to impact on humanity.

Speaking further, the State's Chief Executive who underscored the importance of marketing communication in every aspects of daily engagements, noted its ability to persuade and convince people to buy into a set of ideas,concepts and values.

He however pointed out that as cardinal as marketing communication is to the growth of the society ,it could also be destructive when applied negatively.

Governor Emmanuel therefore used the medium to charge Journalists and media houses to be cautious of news emanating from their desks and to seek to build rather than destroy , adding that "once the walls of the society crumble, the Journalist ceases to exist".

Prof Peter Esuh in his remarks thanked God for the journey so far and paid glowing tributes to his family, his lecturers, colleagues and everyone who gave him a push to where he is today.

The 56 year old Prof Peter Esuh, from Urueoffong-Oruko LGA ,who is also the Head of Department of Communication Arts, University of Uyo, now Faculty of Communication and Media Studies expressed appreciation to the State Governor , Mr Udom Emmanuel for believing in him and giving him a platform to serve as a member of Board.

The well attended event was graced by the Vice Chancellor of UNIUYO, Prof Nyaudoh Ndaeyo who declared the event open, Prof Ashong Ashong who read the celebrant's citation, eminent academics both within and outside the State, members of the pen profession led by the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Amos Etuk, a cross section of the academic community, family, friends and well wishers .

AKSG FLAGS OFF DISTRIBUTION OF MORE EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS TO PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS

The Akwa Ibom State Government has flagged off the distribution of more educational materials to public secondary schools in the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet who performed the ceremony, was full of praises for the Governor for his commitments towards improving the learning environment in the state.

"His Excellency has declared a state -of-Emergency in Education implying that Education is now receiving priority in Akwa Ibom state.

"In view of this and to boost quality education, recently His Excellency has also sponsored the production of thousands of copies of the mathematics text book (Principles of Mathematics for Secondary Schools and Colleges)authored by Nduenyi, A.E.

"This is to help students improve their performances in mathematics. Several copies of the book have so far been distributed to our secondary schools.

"Today marks another turning point in our education milestone. Before us are 60,000 copies of customized English and Mathematics textbooks for SS1 to SS111 respectively. The second batch of these books will be delivered next week,Etiebiet said.

The event which took place at the Ministry of Education Headquarters featured goodwill messages from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Chairman of the State Technical Schools Board Mr. Godwin Udom, Special Assistant to the Governor on Education monitoring, Akparawa Udeme Udofia, Nigerian Union of Teachers.

Speaking on behalf of all the Principals in the state the state chairman, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, (ANCOPSS), Mrs Roseline InyangIbom commended the Governor for his passion to ensure quality education to secure the future of Akwa Ibom children, stating that the education materials are of high quality.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of the Educational materials to school principals to take to their schools.

As celebration of astounding achievements of nobility is echoing in the State, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, has commended the excellence performance of one Theophilla Effiong Hanson, a Teacher in His Majesty International Schools Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area, who has emerged the 2021 Maltina Teacher of the Year.

The event which was held in Owerri , Imo State. Organized by the Nigerian Breweries PLC, celebrated and gave award/cash prizes to State Champions from the South South and South East region, in which Theophilla Hanson was recognized also as Akwa Ibom State Champion and awarded along side other State counterpart.

The event was witnessed by the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prof Njoku, Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries from different States, the Nigerian Brewery Manager, Head of Public and External Affairs of the Nigerian Breweries PLC and a host of other dignitaries in the Country.

The Commissioner of Education was ably represented by the Director, State Education Quality Assurance Service, Mrs Roseline Anthony Mfon.
