📍 AGILE Sokoto Hosts Gbemisola Yussuff Foundation for Strategic Collaboration Meeting
The AGILE Project, Sokoto State, received Aisha Gbemisola Yussuff, Founder of the Gbemisola Yussuff Foundation, for a courtesy visit and partnership discussion focused on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes among students, particularly adolescent girls.
Welcoming the delegation, the System Strengthening Officer highlighted AGILE’s mandate of removing barriers preventing girls from attending and succeeding in school, while emphasizing the importance of partnerships that strengthen learning outcomes.
During the meeting, Aisha Gbemisola Yussuff shared findings from the Foundation’s extensive school assessments across Sokoto State, revealing that a significant number of students—across JSS and SS levels—struggle with basic reading, writing, and numeracy skills in both English and Hausa. She outlined the Foundation’s Literacy and Numeracy Recovery Programme, which now spans 100 schools across six education zones, includes weekly monitoring, daily lesson plans, teacher mentoring, and student motivation initiatives such as *Star of the Week* certificates. She also emphasized large-scale teacher training, noting that many secondary school teachers had not received professional training in decades.
In his remarks, the State Project Coordinator of AGILE Sokoto, Dr. Mansur Isah Buhari, commended the Foundation’s work and described it as timely and impactful. He reaffirmed the Sokoto State Government’s commitment to education reform and expressed AGILE’s readiness to collaborate in addressing foundational learning gaps, improving teacher quality, and ensuring that girls not only return to school but learn meaningfully.
Contributions from the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer highlighted the importance of motivation, accountability, and performance tracking for both students and teachers, including recognition of outstanding teaching efforts.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deeper collaboration between AGILE Sokoto and the Gbemisola Yussuff Foundation to strengthen teaching quality, improve learning outcomes, and secure a better future for children across Sokoto State.
