SOKOTO HEALTH COMMISSIONER ORDERS RESTORATION OF IDU SERVICES, COMMENDS PROGRESS OF SPECIALIST HOSPITAL RENOVATION

The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Sokoto State, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, has directed the management of Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, to restore medical services at the hospital's Infectious Disease Unit (IDU) within one week as the ongoing renovation of the facility progress.

Dr. Faruk gave the directive during an inspection tour of the renovation project at the hospital, where he assessed the quality and progress of work being executed under the Sokoto State Government's healthcare infrastructure upgrade programme.

Accompanied by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Attahiru Isa Sokoto, the Commissioner inspected key departments, including the Maternity Ward, Labour Room, Infectious Disease Unit (IDU), Sardauna Ward (Male Surgical Ward), and the Medical Laboratory.

The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the standard and pace of the renovation, describing the project as a major step towards repositioning Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, to meet global standards in healthcare service delivery.

He said the remodelling of the hospital is in line with the vision of His Excellency, Governor Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, FCNA, to provide the people of Sokoto State with modern, accessible, and high-quality healthcare services.

Dr. Faruk emphasized that while the renovation continues, essential health services must not be disrupted, hence the directive to immediately restore operations at the Infectious Disease Unit.
Responding, the Chief Medical Director,

Dr. Attahiru Isa Sokoto, appreciated the Commissioner's visit and commended the Sokoto State Government for its sustained investment in strengthening the health sector.

He assured the Commissioner that all directives issued during the inspection would be implemented promptly by the hospital management.

The Commissioner was accompanied on the inspection by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Alhaji Ibrahim Haliru Dingyadi, mni, and Directors of the Ministry of Health.

Sokoto State Ministry of Health Holds Joint Annual Review Meeting to Strengthen Healthcare Service Delivery

The Sokoto State Ministry of Health today convened its Joint Annual Review (JAR) Meeting at Sokoto Guest Inn Hotel, Sokoto State, to assess the performance of the health sector and develop strategies aimed at improving the quality, accessibility, and effectiveness of healthcare services across the state.

The meeting brought together the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno; the SA to the Governor on SSPHCDA, Dr. Muhammad Bello Marnona, SA on SOCHEMA, SA on SOSACAT, SA on SOSMEA; the Executive Secretaries of SSPHCDA, SOSACAT and SOSMEA, including Dr. Bilyaminu Yari Sifawa of SSPHCDA; the Director General of SOCHEMA, the Director General of DMA, Chief Medical Directors of tertiary health institutions, Directors of the Ministry of Health and its agencies, Directors from the 23 Local Government Areas, development partners, and other key stakeholders in the health sector.

In his opening remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, described the Joint Annual Review as a vital platform for evaluating achievements, identifying challenges, and developing practical solutions to strengthen healthcare delivery in Sokoto State.

He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the administration of His Excellency, Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu, FCNA, to ensuring that all residents of Sokoto State have access to affordable, equitable, and high-quality healthcare services.

The Joint Annual Review underscores the Ministry's dedication to evidence-based planning, collaboration with stakeholders, and continuous improvement of the health system to achieve better health outcomes for the people of Sokoto State.
