In fulfillment of NEMA mandate to deliver timely humanitarian support, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) authorized the release of relief materials to flood victims in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, Imo State. The exercise was coordinated by a team led by the Head of the Operations Office.
The distribution took place on May 1, 2026, at the Mbaitoli LGA Secretariat Complex. Mr. Igwe Nnamdi Chukwudi, Head of NEMA’s Owerri Operations Office, conveyed the goodwill message of Director General Zubaida Umar and expressed sympathy to the affected residents. He also encouraged the community to adopt preventive measures against future flooding.
Rt. Hon. Henry Nwawuba, former representative of Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency, commended NEMA’s leadership and assured that the relief materials would be equitably shared among the affected communities. Hon. Ifunanya Lactus Nwanegwo, Chairman of Mbaitoli LGA, expressed appreciation to both NEMA and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), pledging that the items would reach those most in need.
Stakeholders in Attendance:
Representatives from NEMA, IMSEMA, Mbaitoli LGA leadership, the Police, and local vigilante groups participated in the exercise to coordinate efforts and ensure fair distribution.
