ISERC Strengthens Tariff Regulatory Capacity Through NERC Capacity Building Programme
The Imo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ISERC) has further strengthened its technical and regulatory capacity following a two-day capacity-building programme facilitated by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The programme, held under the theme “Tariff Methodology in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry,” brought together the Chairman/CEO of ISERC, Engr. Bede Opara, the Hon. Commissioner for Tariff and Marketing, Hon. Oparaocha Stella Chidinma, and staff of the Commission’s Tariff Department for intensive engagements on electricity tariff regulation and modelling.
The training provided participants with deeper practical knowledge of the principles and framework for electricity tariff setting in Nigeria, revenue requirement assessment, tariff modelling, pricing principles and the determination of end-user tariffs within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
The programme also highlighted the importance of a sound and transparent tariff framework in building a financially sustainable electricity market—one capable of supporting investment, promoting efficiency, ensuring appropriate cost recovery and ultimately improving electricity service delivery to consumers.
The Chairman/CEO, Engr. Bede Opara, ISERC continues to prioritize institutional capacity, sound regulatory practices and effective stakeholder engagement as key pillars in the development of the Imo State electricity market.
The Hon. Commissioner for Tariff and Marketing, Hon. Oparaocha Stella Chidinma, remains committed to strengthening the Commission’s capacity to effectively discharge its mandate, particularly in the areas of tariff analysis, market monitoring and the development of a fair and sustainable electricity market.
ISERC appreciates NERC for its continued technical support and commitment to strengthening regulatory capacity across Nigeria’s emerging sub-national electricity markets.
