*IDOG CALL TO YOUTH*

*TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR FUTURE*

There comes a time when young people must stop waiting for someone else to build the future for them.

*That time is now.*

Our future cannot always be placed in the hands of politicians, parents, community leaders or people we expect to come and rescue us.

If we want a better future, *we must begin to take responsibility for creating it.*

Leadership is not only about occupying a political office.

Leadership begins with *attitude.*

It begins with how you think.

How you speak.

How you treat people who disagree with you.

How you respond when things do not go your way.

How willing you are to learn.

How seriously you take opportunities.

And how prepared you are to stand for what is right, even when it is not popular.

As young people, we cannot demand to be taken seriously while behaving as though we are not ready to take responsibility.

We cannot ask for leadership opportunities while refusing to show leadership in our everyday lives.

We cannot complain that older generations have failed us while we repeat the same behaviours we criticize.

*The future belongs to those who prepare for it.*

This is why we must begin to develop ourselves.

Acquire skills.

Seek knowledge.

Build businesses.

Learn from those who have experience.

Participate in community development.

Ask constructive questions.

Engage in political conversations with maturity.

Support ideas, not just personalities.

And most importantly, *learn to think for yourself.*

Do not allow political gifts to buy your conscience.

Do not allow party colours to blind your judgment.

Do not allow social media arguments to turn you against your own brothers and sisters.

You can support a candidate without insulting someone who supports another candidate.

You can disagree without becoming enemies.

You can question leadership without hatred.

You can acknowledge good work even when it comes from someone you did not support.

*That is maturity.*

And that is leadership.

Young people should not wait until someone gives them an opportunity before they begin preparing themselves.

Prepare now.

Build yourself now.

Develop your capacity now.

Because when the opportunity finally comes, *capacity will determine whether you are ready to take it.*

Let us therefore stop asking only:

*What will they do for us?*

Let us also ask:

*What are we doing for ourselves?*

What are you learning?

What are you building?

What problem are you solving?

What value are you adding to your community?

What kind of person are you becoming?

Because the future we keep talking about is not somewhere far away.

And the quality of that future will depend greatly on the quality of young people we become today.

THE QUESTIONS WE ASK TODAY ARE ONLY THE BEGINNING

To the leaders who feel uncomfortable whenever young people ask difficult questions:

Please understand something.

When we ask you hard questions, we are not necessarily attacking you. We are asking questions because leadership comes with responsibility, and public service should be open to public scrutiny.

You may be uncomfortable with our questions today.

You may call us disrespectful.
You may call us bitter.
You may say we are looking for attention.
You may even turn genuine questions into political hatred.

But remember this:

The generation coming behind us will have even bigger questions.

They will not only ask, “What did you do while you were in office?”

They will ask:

What did you inherit?
What did you build?
What did you leave behind?
Where did the public resources go?
What opportunities did you create?
How many young people became independent because of your leadership?
And what kind of society did you hand over to the next generation?

That generation will have access to more information, more technology, more records and more ways of demanding accountability.

So, dear leaders, do not mistake today's silence for tomorrow's ignorance.

And do not think accountability ends when your tenure ends.

If public resources were genuinely mismanaged, future generations will have the right to ask questions about them. If public wealth was legitimately acquired, history should be able to understand and verify it. If a legacy was honestly built, let the records speak.

The children of tomorrow are not responsible for the actions of their parents. But they will inherit the consequences of those actions—and they have every right to demand the truth about the society they inherited.

That is why today's leaders should not be afraid of questions.

Answer them.
Document your achievements.
Explain your decisions.
Show the evidence.
Build institutions.
Create opportunities.
Leave a legacy that your children will be proud to inherit—not a burden they will one day have to explain.

We are not asking difficult questions because we hate our leaders.

We ask because we love the future enough to refuse to remain silent about the present.

And perhaps the greatest mistake any leader can make is to believe that the generation asking questions today is the last generation that will ask.

It is not.

The questions are getting bigger.

And the generation coming behind us is preparing to ask them.

*SHOULD WE CONTINUE KEEPING QUIET?*

*When asking questions becomes hatred, who will speak for the people?*

*PART 1 — QUESTIONS ARE NOT HATRED*

Fellow Citizens of Ideato, Imo State, and Nigeria,

There is a question that has been troubling my heart:

Should we continue keeping quiet?

Should we keep silent because asking our leaders difficult questions may make someone uncomfortable?

Should we stop asking for evidence because we might be called haters?

Should we pretend everything is working because questioning a political decision may suddenly make us “the opposition”?

If we cannot ask questions in a democracy, then where exactly are we supposed to ask them?

A society does not become stronger because its people remain silent. It becomes stronger when citizens have the courage to ask questions, leaders have the maturity to provide answers, and institutions have the responsibility to demand evidence.

We must stop teaching our young people that questioning leadership is disrespect.

It is not disrespect to ask:

Where are the jobs?

Where are the opportunities?

Where are the skills and innovation centres for our graduates?

What investment is being made in our young people?

What measurable projects have been delivered?

What has changed in the lives of ordinary families?

What is the plan for the next generation?

And when we ask these questions, why must the conversation suddenly become about who is supporting which political party?

We are not asking because we hate you. We are asking because we want to understand.

We are asking because leadership should be measurable.

We are asking because democracy should not be reduced to election day, posters, rallies, food, transportation and social-media warfare.

And this is where our generation must wake up.

Our young people deserve more than peanuts for political loyalty.

We cannot continue producing graduates with dreams but no opportunities, talented young people with nowhere to develop their abilities, and ambitious youths who are remembered only when their voices, phones, vehicles, skills and social-media platforms are needed for political campaigns.

We cannot keep receiving small handouts while our future remains unemployed.

We cannot spend our youth defending leaders online while those same leaders have not created pathways for us to build sustainable lives.

A young person should not have to become a political warrior before becoming economically useful.

Our leaders should not be afraid of a generation that asks questions.

They should be proud of a generation that asks questions.

Because the young person who asks, “Where is the evidence?” today may become the competent leader who demands evidence tomorrow.

The young person who asks, “What have you done with the mandate?” today may become the public servant who understands accountability tomorrow.

The young person who refuses to defend failure simply because of a party colour may become the leader who finally places capacity above sentiment.

*AND TO OUR LEADERS...*

Please do not mistake questioning for hatred.

Do not mistake criticism for opposition.

Do not mistake independent thinking for disloyalty.

The young people asking you hard questions are not necessarily your enemies.

Some of them are simply asking because they want to believe in you.

Give them evidence.

Give them facts.

Give them a vision they can believe in.

Give them opportunities they can build their lives around.

Give them a reason to defend your record—not merely your name.

Because one day, the rallies will end.

The campaign posters will disappear.

The hashtags will fade.

The political arguments on social media will become history.

But the lives of the people will remain.

The road will still be there.

The school will still be there.

The hospital will still be there.

The unemployed graduate will still be looking for an opportunity.

The talented young person will still be asking where to develop that talent.

*And the next generation will eventually ask us:*

“When you saw what was happening, why did you keep quiet?”

That question should frighten us more than being called an opposition.

*SO, SHOULD WE CONTINUE KEEPING QUIET?*

*No.*

We must speak—but responsibly.

We must question—but constructively.

We must criticize—but with facts.

We must challenge leadership—but with evidence.

And we must also recognize and commend genuine performance wherever we find it, regardless of political affiliation.

Because our goal is not to destroy leaders.

Our goal is to produce better leadership.

Our goal is not to create enemies.

Our goal is to create a culture where competence is rewarded, capacity is respected, evidence matters, and public office carries responsibility.

Let nobody convince our generation that silence is loyalty.

Silence does not build democracy.

Questions do.

Evidence does.

Accountability does.

Courage does.

And perhaps the most important question of all is not:

*Who are you supporting?*

*But:*

*What kind of society are we building for the people coming after us?*

*THE POLITICAL PARTY QUESTION: ARE WE BEING DIVIDED?*

*A Reflection Every Young Person—and Every Leader—Must Read*

There is a question we need to ask ourselves before the next political argument begins:

*Are political parties bringing us together to build our communities, or are we allowing them to turn us against one another?*

Political parties are supposed to be vehicles for ideas, policies, and democratic participation.

They were never supposed to become weapons with which brothers fight brothers, friends abandon friends, and young people destroy relationships over politicians who may eventually sit together at the same table.

Yet, look around us.

A young person supports Party A.

Another supports Party B.

Suddenly, they become enemies.

One calls the other a fool.

Another calls his brother an enemy.

Friendships are broken.

Communities become divided.

And sometimes, young people become the loudest defenders of political interests that may not even improve their own lives.

*But here is the uncomfortable question:*

When the election is over, who will remain?

The political party?

The politician?

The campaign poster?

Or *you and the person you were taught to hate?*

Think about it.

Political parties will change.

Candidates will cross-carpet.

Political opponents will negotiate.

People who insulted one another during campaigns may eventually sit together, shake hands, and move forward.

But the young people who allowed politics to destroy their relationships may still be carrying the wounds.

*So who really paid the price?*

This is where our generation must become wiser.

You can support a political party without surrendering your conscience.

You can support a candidate without becoming their attack dog.

You can disagree with another young person politically without treating them as an enemy.

You can defend your political position without destroying your community.

*Politics should be something we participate in—not something that consumes us.*

Young people, do not allow anyone to weaponize your passion.

Your intelligence is too valuable to be reduced to social-media insults.

Your energy is too powerful to be spent fighting another young person because they support a different candidate.

Your future is too important to be sacrificed for somebody else's political ambition.

Ask yourself:

*What skill am I gaining?*

*What business am I building?*

*What problem am I solving?*

*What opportunity am I creating?*

*What will I have to show for my youth when this election is over?*

Because the politician you are defending may have another opportunity tomorrow.

*But you have only one youth.*

And leaders must also ask themselves a difficult question:

*What kind of generation are we creating?*

Are we empowering young people to think independently?

Or are we training them to fight one another for political interests?

Are we creating innovators?

Or political media warriors?

Are we building entrepreneurs, researchers, professionals, and community builders?

Or simply building armies of young people whose greatest achievement is defending someone else's name online?

A wise leader does not fear an independent-minded youth.

*A wise leader develops one.*

Because tomorrow's strong communities will not be built by young people who know how to insult one another over politics.

They will be built by young people who know how to innovate, collaborate, create businesses, conduct research, develop technology, solve problems, and challenge ideas intelligently.

So let us change the conversation.

*Disagree politically.*

*Compete intellectually.*

*Debate passionately.*

*Support your candidate.*

But do not allow politics to convince you that your fellow young person is your enemy.

Your neighbour may carry another party's flag today and still be the person you need to build tomorrow's business with.

Your friend may vote differently from you and still be the person who helps you solve the problem your community has struggled with for twenty years.

*Political differences should never become permanent human divisions.*

And perhaps the most important question of all is this:

*Are you using politics to build your future—or are you allowing politics to use you to build someone else's?*

Let every young person think about that before the next argument.

Let every political leader think about it before the next rally.

Because elections will come and go.

Parties will rise and fall.

Politicians will change positions.

But *our communities will remain.*

And *our generation will have to live with what we build—or what we destroy today.*

*OYA PRESENTS BEST PERFORMING LEGISLATOR AWARD TO HON. IKENGA UGOCHINYERE*

The *Orluzurumee Youth Assembly (OYA)* has presented an award to *Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere Ikegwuonu,* recognizing him as the Best Performing Legislator in Orlu Zone based on the outcome of an assessment conducted by the Assembly.

The presentation took place on the 6th of August 2026, during a courtesy visit by the *National Executive of OYA* to the lawmaker’s residence in Akokwa, Ideato North Local Government Area, Imo State. The delegation was led by the National President of the Assembly, *Prince Izunna Obiefuna, JP.*

According to the *OYA President,* the recognition followed an assessment conducted by the Assembly’s evaluation committee across the *Orlu Zone.* He stated that the committee’s scorecard formed the basis for selecting *Hon. Ugochinyere* for the recognition.

He further explained that the recognition was intended not only to acknowledge the outcome of the assessment but also to encourage the recipient to sustain and improve his commitment to public service and representation. He urged the lawmaker not to become complacent because of the recognition, but to see it as motivation to do more for his constituency and the wider Orlu Zone.

Responding, *Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere* expressed appreciation to the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly for the recognition. He stated that although he had previously heard about the organization’s activities, the visit marked his first official meeting with its national leadership.

The lawmaker commended the Assembly for undertaking what he described as a broad assessment of legislators across the *Orlu Zone.* He encouraged the organization to continue its civic engagement efforts and stated that he would not take the recognition for granted. *THE ENDORSEMENT QUESTION: BEFORE YOU BELIEVE IT, VERIFY IT*

As the 2027 political season approaches, political messages will circulate rapidly-endorsements, declarations, resolutions, photographs, logos, and claims of support from different groups.

But as citizens, we must learn to ask one important question before accepting any political message as fact:

*CAN IT BE VERIFIED?*

An endorsement does not automatically become credible simply because it carries an impressive name, a well-designed logo, or a professionally written statement.

*We must ask:*

Who is the organization?

Does the organization genuinely exist?

Can its leadership and membership be independently verified?

Does it have a known structure, history of activities, or identifiable presence within the community?

Was there actually a meeting where the alleged decision was reached?

Who attended that meeting?

Was a formal resolution made and properly documented?

Who has the legitimate authority to issue such an endorsement?

These are not unnecessary questions.

They are the basic questions of an informed electorate.

A logo can be designed in minutes.

A name can be created overnight.

A political statement can be written and circulated within seconds.

But credibility cannot be manufactured simply by placing a logo at the top of a document.

This is why every voter-especially our young people-must develop the habit of verification before amplification.

Do not forward a message simply because it sounds convincing.

Do not believe it simply because many people are sharing it.

Do not assume that a group exists simply because its name appears on a statement.

And do not mistake a campaign message for an independently verified community resolution.

This principle must apply to every political camp, every candidate, and every political interest.

Today, an unverified endorsement may favour the person you support.

Tomorrow, another unverified claim may favour someone else.

If we tolerate misinformation when it benefits our side, we weaken the very democracy we claim to defend.

*TO POLITICAL ACTORS:*

If an organization genuinely endorses you, let the process be transparent.

Let the organization be identifiable.

Let its leadership be verifiable.

Let the resolution be properly documented.

Let the public have enough information to distinguish a genuine community decision from a campaign production.

Do not manufacture the appearance of grassroots support.

The people deserve genuine voices—not invented structures.

*TO THE YOUTH:*

You are not merely social-media distributors.

*You are citizens.*

Your phone should not become a machine for spreading claims you have never investigated.

*Before you share, ask yourself:*

*CAN THIS BE VERIFIED?*

That simple question can protect an entire community from political misinformation.

Our democracy does not become stronger because more people believe a message.

It becomes stronger when more people learn to question, verify, and demand evidence.

Let political parties campaign.

*A Reflection to Every Leader and Aspiring Leader in Ideato*

There is one costly mistake many leaders make.

They assume they already know what the people need.

From the comfort of offices in Abuja, Owerri, or even the Local Government headquarters, decisions are made on behalf of communities that are rarely visited. Projects are conceived without conversations. Priorities are set without listening.

But true leadership does not begin in an office.

*It begins among the people.*

*The people know where the shoe pinches.*

A leader who genuinely desires to serve must first develop the humility to listen.

Before making promises...

Before designing projects...

Before announcing achievements...

Go to the people.

Walk through the villages.

Visit the markets.

Sit with the traders.

Talk to the farmers.

Meet the artisans.

Listen to the youths.

Engage the women.

Visit the schools.

Step into the health centres.

Only then will you begin to understand the realities your people face every single day.

You cannot understand the daily struggle of a trader if you have never stood where they do business.

You cannot understand the pain of a farmer if you have never walked through the farmlands they depend on.

You cannot understand the frustration of graduates if you have never listened to their fears, ambitions, and unanswered questions.

You cannot understand the challenges of patients if you have never entered the health facilities where they seek treatment.

Leadership is not about deciding what people should need.

*Leadership is about discovering what people actually need.*

A road that appears important on paper may not be the community's most urgent priority.

A borehole may not be the greatest challenge.

A town hall may not be what the people are asking for.

Development should never be driven by assumptions.

It should be driven by listening.

One of the greatest signs of wisdom in leadership is the willingness to ask simple questions:

*"What is your greatest challenge?"*

*"What can we do to improve your lives?"*

Those two questions can prevent years of misplaced priorities and wasted public resources.

Fellow Ndi-Ideato,

Every election season comes with excitement. The roads become busy, campaign vehicles fill our communities, promises multiply, and political conversations dominate our homes, markets, and social media.

But there is one truth we must never forget:

*The next election will end, but Ideato will remain.*

Long after the campaign posters have faded, after the victory songs have gone silent, after the political offices have been occupied, we—the people—will still live with the consequences of the choices we made.

*When the elections are over, we will still drive on the same roads—if they are motorable.*

*Our children will still learn in the same schools—if the classrooms are safe and the roofs no longer leak.*

*Our mothers will still depend on the same hospitals—if they are equipped with them personnel, medicines, and facilities needed to save lives.*

*Our farmers will still cultivate the same fertile land—if insecurity does not deny them access to their farms.*

*Our graduates and young people will still search for opportunities in the same communities—if opportunities have been created for them to find.*

That is why the true measure of leadership is not the noise of campaigns, but the condition of the community after the campaigns have ended.

The real victory of any election is not who occupies an office—it is whether the people are better off because that office was occupied responsibly.

A four-year tenure may seem long, but history has taught us that it passes quickly. What remains are the roads that were built or neglected, the schools that were transformed or abandoned, the hospitals that were equipped or ignored, the jobs that were created or lost, and the reputation that leaders leave behind.

As citizens, we also have a responsibility. We must resist the temptation to exchange our future for temporary gifts or emotional slogans. We must ask deeper questions:

What is the candidate's vision?

What is the candidate's track record?

What practical solutions are being offered?

What measurable legacy will this leadership leave behind?

Our votes are not just for today—they are investments in the future our children will inherit.
