2027 – ATIKU REMAINS THE MAIN ISSUE.

Aare Amerijoye DOT.B

“Great dreams are not born in comfort; they are carved through fire, through rejection, and through relentless hope.”

In the vast theatre of Nigeria's politics, one name continues to haunt the corridors of power and echo through the conscience of a struggling nation: Atiku Abubakar. Like a persistent sunrise that refuses to be dimmed by the clouds of conspiracy or the storms of sabotage, Atiku remains the main issue, not because he is desperate for power, but because he dares to dream in a country that has made dreaming a criminal act.

He is not just a politician. He is an idea, the very emblem of a Nigeria that can be, that ought to be, and that must be. He carries in his heart the same defiance that Nelson Mandela took with him to Robben Island, the same vision Abraham Lincoln held through the fires of America’s civil war, and the same resilient spirit that propelled Winston Churchill through the darkest hours of World War II. These men were never popular for their persistence; they were misunderstood, vilified, mocked, until history bowed at their feet.

And so it is with Atiku.

When Nigeria’s soul was auctioned to incompetence and mediocrity, he stood for reform. When the nation was plunged into economic darkness, he spoke of restructuring, of equity, of a nation that works for all. Yet, like Galileo, who was branded a heretic for proclaiming the truth about the stars, Atiku’s revolutionary dreams have often been called unpatriotic by those whose loyalty is to their pockets, not the people.

During his tenure as Vice President, Atiku championed the liberalization of the telecom sector, which led to the mobile revolution in Nigeria. Today, millions connect through a sector once monopolized and stagnant. He also spearheaded reforms in education, promoted private sector growth, and was instrumental in setting up a more efficient civil service framework, legacies that still echo in Nigeria’s modern economic discourse.

But here is the irony: those who say Atiku has contested too many times forget that persistence is not a sin, it is the golden badge of all great men. Thomas Edison tried over a thousand times before birthing the light bulb. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the “I Have a Dream” speech not in triumph, but in the trenches of America’s racial despair. Mandela spent 27 years in prison before becoming president. Barack Obama was told America wasn’t ready for a Black president, until America proved it was.

Atiku’s vision is not a fantasy; it is a deliberate, well-thought-out path to salvage Nigeria. He understands the intricate machinery of governance. He has built bridges where others built walls. He has hired thinkers where others hired thugs. He has empowered businesses where others enriched cronies. He is not new to power, but he is new to the idea of abuse.

In an era where incompetence wears agbada and failure is polished with media propaganda, Atiku’s preparedness stands in noble defiance.

They call him old, yet forget that age does not dim dreams. Gandhi led India’s liberation in his later years. Joe Biden became America’s president at 78. Greatness is not in age, but in relevance, ideas, and the capacity to respond to the demands of the time. And make no mistake, 2027 will be a referendum on vision, not vengeance; on character, not cults.

Atiku’s dream is not for himself. It is the dream of a father who has watched Nigeria's promise die in the hands of bandits in power. It is the dream of a statesman who believes that no child should be out of school, no youth should roam the street jobless, and no citizen should suffer humiliation in their own country. It is the same dream that inspired Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, Obafemi Awolowo, and Ahmadu Bello, a dream of self-reliance, of unity, of a Nigeria that doesn’t just exist but excels.

The ruling cabal may try to shift the narrative. They may invent distractions and shout new slogans. But none of them will be able to erase the fundamental question that will define 2027: Where is Nigeria heading and who can lead her there? And in answering that, the truth returns to the fore: Atiku remains the main issue.

He is the ghost they can’t bury, the truth they can’t silence, the dream they can’t destroy. He is the embodiment of the Nigerian possibility.

As Victor Hugo wrote, “No army can stop an idea whose time has come.” And no power, whether of bullion vans or ballot rigging, can ultimately stop a dream that is sustained by the people’s hunger for justice and hope.

Atiku is not a perfect man. But then again, perfection is not what Nigeria needs. What Nigeria needs is a tested man of ideas, experience, humility, and structure. A man whose failures have taught him more than others have learnt from their stolen victories. A man who doesn’t just chase power, but prepares for it. A man who sees the presidency not as a trophy but as a tool for transformation.

In the final analysis, 2027 will not be about zoning, religion, or tribal arithmetic. It will be about destiny. And history, in its infinite patience, may yet reward the man who refused to stop dreaming.

History does not ask how many times a man tried. It only remembers who rose when others fell, who built when others destroyed, who dreamt when the night was darkest. In 2027, Nigeria’s crossroads will call for clarity and Atiku remains the compass.

Let the cynics mock. Let the pretenders plot. Let the doubters sneer. But when the dust settles, and the ballot speaks, ATIKU REMAINS THE MAIN ISSUE.

EXCLUSIVE: Dumebi Kachikwu, Bola Tinubu’s instrument for crippling new ADC coalition, nailed in U.S. over $2.1 million fraud
No sooner had the alliance been announced than Mr Kachikwu launched a disinformation campaign, using incurious outlets to spread unfounded claims that he owned the ADC structure.

ADEFEMOLA AKINTADE • July 3, 2025

Afederal court in the United States has delivered its final judgment in a tax fraud case involving Abuja-based politician Dumebi Kachikwu, The Peoples Gazette can report.

Mr Kachikwu was ordered to pay $2.1 million by Judge George Jarrod Hazel of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland in Greenbelt, documents reviewed by The Gazette said. The January 2023 judgement was the final decision on the tax liability case brought by American authorities against Mr Kachikwu and his wife, Somachi, who was also ordered to pay parts of a separate $56,000 debt to the U.S. treasury. The Gazette previously reported the confiscation of Mr Dumebi’s assets in the U.S. as the case was underway in 2022.

Details of the judgement came as Mr Dumebi returned to public infamy with a campaign to claim ownership of the newly formed political coalition against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Opposition leaders recently adopted the African Democratic Congress to mount a robust challenge to Mr Tinubu, whose reign has been tainted by endemic corruption, abuse of power, and a sudden security collapse. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Rauf Aregbesola and David Mark are among political leaders now associated with the new coalition, which was unveiled on Wednesday in the nation’s capital.

But no sooner had the alliance been announced than Mr Kachikwu launched a disinformation campaign, using incurious media outlets to spread unfounded claims that he owned the ADC infrastructure.

But The Gazette’s findings showed Mr Kachikwu was not even a member of the ADC’s national executive panel. His closest association to the party came in the run-up to the 2023 elections, when he used his ill-acquired resources to upstage Kingsley Moghalu as the party’s candidate.

Mr Kachikwu was accused at the time of hijacking the ADC to undermine the party from within as an agent of Mr Tinubu, who was running on the ruling All Progressives Congress’ platform at the time. Mr Kachikwu denied the allegations, but his public statements since the election have largely clarified his loyalty to Mr Tinubu.

Mr Kachikwu is a familiar guest on Lagos-based TVC, a broadcast network which Mr Tinubu runs with stolen Lagos funds. On Wednesday, he appeared on various political magazine programmes to castigate the opposition coalition as corrupt, geriatric and politically compromised.

“Dumebi Kachikwu is an agent of the president,” a senior ruling party official told The Gazette on Wednesday. “We’re happy to have him.”

Mr Kachikwu first made headlines in the mid-aughts when he was named as the facilitator of an international bribery scheme that led to the jailing of former U.S. lawmaker William Jefferson. The nefarious iGate-NDTV broadband deal impugned Nigeria’s reputation, anti-corruption officials said at the time.

It was unclear when he returned to Nigeria, settling in Abuja, where he cast a general reputation as a notorious wheeler-dealer. His brother, Ibe Kachikwu, publisher of fiendish magazines, served as the petroleum minister (state) under President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Kachikwu, who runs multimedia platform Roots TV, told The Gazette about his regular visits to the U.S., which he said were often posted on social media. But no such posts were found on his Instagram and Twitter pages.

He, however, sidestepped questions about his association with Mr Tinubu and the $2.1 million judgment outstanding against him in the U.S.

A presidential spokesman declined to comment on whether Mr Kachikwu had any ties to the administration. The president has long been known to plant agents in opposition parties.

In 2023, he used Nyesom Wike to sabotage the Peoples Democratic Party by plunging the party into perennial crises. Mr Wike was subsequently rewarded with a ministerial position, which he has mindlessly exploited to loot public assets for his family. Many of the crises remained unresolved until Mr Abubakar and others decided to join the new ADC coalition to maximise their prospects for 2027.

A spokesman for the PDP section of the coalition said the new alliance would be focusing on ousting the APC from power in 2027, rather than the ruling party’s antics.

“Nigerians know the antics of the APC,” Debo Ologunagba said. “We’re just going to focus on ending the madness that is APC in 2027.”

Tracking Down FCDA worker detained by FCT Minister Wike Over Leaked Land Allocation Scandal Involving his children

Last Friday, Mairiga Hassan Shaharu, a staff member at the Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA), was unlawfully detained at the FCDA Police Post on the orders of Nyesom Wike’s Chief Security Officer (CSO). He was accused of leaking documents showing that the FCT Minister had illegally allocated large portions of Abuja land to his two underage sons, a scandal first reported by Peoples Gazette.

But the truth is that Mairiga doesn’t even have access to the Land Department’s internal systems. He works in the department that handles new land applications, not approvals or allocations.

I visited the police post tonight with two human rights lawyers, Rosemary HamzaHamza and Ak Musa. We were later joined by a third lawyer who had tried unsuccessfully to secure Mairiga’s release earlier. According to him, Wike’s CSO used a forged court order to detain Mairiga. The IPO on the case refused to show the order. When the lawyer managed to glance at it, he discovered the order came from a magistrate who no longer presides in the jurisdiction, a clear evidence of forgery and abuse of office.

After some three hours of confrontation by telephone, Wike’s CSO claimed they couldn’t locate the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), it was a ruse.

Meanwhile, the senior female officer in charge of the police post returned from Karu, summoned to calm things down, she immediately said she lacked the power to release Mairiga, because he was Wike’s personal detainee.

Eventually, the CSO called back and claimed Wike had changed his mind. He said the matter was now “beyond” him as it was now in the hands of the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Wale Ajao, the same Commissioner of the Nigeria Police Force who recently helped imprison a TikToker on behalf of Senator Prince Ned Nwoko and his youngest wife, Regina Daniels. I called CP Ajao directly, but he pretended the detention was based on a valid court order—unaware that we had already confirmed the order was fake. He repeated the same tactic, “Go to court.”

Then came the most brazen move, Wike’s CSO called again and said Wike himself wants to see me at his office tomorrow morning alongside the detained worker. I asked him if he even knew who he was speaking to. I told him flatly, Wike couldn't have summoned me, he knew better not to make such a mistake and I will not be visiting his office.

Before ending the call, I asked the CSO, If Wike never allocated land to his children, why is someone being detained for leaking documents that supposedly don’t exist?

Wike should be the one under investigation for allocating public lands to his children, a clear criminal conduct, not Citizen Mairiga.

PRESS RELEASE

Minister Wike is Jittery – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken note of the virulent attacks launched on the various leaders of the coalition movement by the Hon. Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike in his media chat today.
Without justifying this behaviour that we find incompatible with the office of a Federal Minister, we believe Minister Wike could only descend to that level because of his mortal fear of the threat that the successful unveiling of the coalition of opposition political parties constitutes to the government that he serves.
We observe that if minister Wike and the government that he serves had kept their promises to the Nigerian people, the coalition movement would not have been necessary and he would not have had a need to be so jittery.
If minister Wike had paid the salaries of primary school teachers who have been on strike for several months and if he had not treated FCT workers with so much contempt, while he goes about commissioning white elephant projects running into billions of Naira, he would have had no need to be afraid of the coalition.
Minister Wike claimed in his media chat that the coalition leaders are driven only by grievances. If we have any grievances, it is the way the government he is a part of has driven majority of Nigerians into poverty and misery. We are aggrieved to see children of the poor unable to get education because he would not pay their teachers’ salaries. We are aggrieved to watch the growing insecurity in the FCT that he superintends. We are aggrieved that minister Wike had allowed himself to be used by the government he serves to destroy one of the most powerful political parties in Africa, the PDP.
But it is rather too late in the day to cry. The coalition movement belongs to the Nigerian people who had been promised renewed hope, but have been served renewed hopelessness. Therefore, no amount of tirade against the leaders of the coalition could stem the tide of this popular movement.

Mal. Bolaji Abdullahi
Spokesman of the Coalition Movement.
