NIGER STATE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT LAUDED RMRDC FOR STRENGTHENING COLLABORATION AND SUCCESSFUL PILOT PROJECTS

The Niger State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Musa Salihu Bawa Bosso has lauded the Raw Materials and Research and Development Council,(RMRDC) for strengthening collaboration and successfully executing pilot projects in the state.

The commissioner gave the praise while receiving the Niger State Coordinator RMRDC, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, on a courtesy visit to the ministry in Minna.

The Niger State Coordinator Raw Material Research and Development Council, (RMRDC), Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, briefed the commissioner on the viable projects embarked on by the RMRDC in Niger State and other states, including various crops boosting programmes, such as soybeans, maize, sesame, sorghum, millet, cashew, tomato, palm tree, coconut, banana, plantain, Tiger nuts, cotton, jatropha, artemisia, sugar beet, and cowpea.

He said the visit was in a bid to further strengthen collaboration and ensure effective service delivery.

Mr. Yakubu Mohammed also mentioned beneficiaries of the RMRDC Programmes in Niger State to include farmers cultivating aforementioned crops, saying the Maize Growers, Processing, and Marketers Association of Nigeria (MAGPAGMAN), Maize Association of Nigeria (MAAN), Soybeans Farmers Association of Nigeria(SOFAN), Sesame Farmers Association of Nigeria (SEFAN), Tiger Nuts Farmers, Garkuwa Farms Minna, Kwakuti Women Rice Processing Cluster, Niger State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mokwa Local Government Area, NACOTAN, and the Federal University of Technology, FUT Minna among others benefitted of various projects of the RMRDC in Niger State which also has a Raw Material Promotion and Investment Information Centre at the RMRDC Niger State Coordinating Office in Minna.

Responding, the Niger State Commissioner of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Musa Salihu Bawa Bosso, lauded the RMRDC under the leadership of Prof. Hussaini Doko Ibrahim, particularly the crop-boosting initiative which he said has motivated farmers to see farming as entrepreneurship-oriented and seen farming as a business, adding that it is a family hood support idea, hence the need for strengthening collaboration with the RMRDC, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and relevant stakeholders.

Commissioner Musa Bawa Bosso urged the farmers to inculcate the habits of having a farming plan and keeping proper records of their farming activities and expenditures, to enable them to know the gain or loss.

The commissioner said that the Governor of Niger State Mohammed Umaru Bago is poised with the New Niger Agenda with the Ministry of Agriculture playing a key role to create a lot a lot of jobs for the youth, fostering the establishment of farming implementation, and establishing machinery assembly plants in the state.

RMRDC NIGER STATE COORDINATOR ATTENDS STRATEGIC MEETING WITH NIGER STATE MINISTRY OF TRADE AND INVESTMENT

The Niger State Coordinator of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, attended a strategic meeting with officials from the Niger State Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Investment at the State Secretariat in Minna, today December 4, 2023.

Chaired by the Niger State Permanent Secretary of Trade and Investment, Hon. Hamza Sarki Bello, the meeting included Mika S.R from the RMRDC Headquarters, along with S.O.I. Mustapha Mohammed Nma and P.O.II Umar Salihu Adamu.

During the meeting, Mr. Yakubu, the RMRDC Coordinator for Niger State, provided updates on various projects undertaken by the council in the state.

Resolutions from the meeting included plans for a tripartite visit to meet with the DG of RMRDC, Prof. Hussaini Doko Ibrahim. Additionally, there will be a similar meeting with the Niger State Ministry of Agriculture within the week to develop a phased action plan for effective implementation within the stipulated time frame.

Other resolutions reached also include the need to visit the Fruit Juice Factory at Paiko, Maikunkele site, Chanchaga sugar beet farm, and the Shekwato 20 Hectares Farmland (with soil samples already sent to University of Ibadan and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria for soil analysis).

NIGER RMRDC COORDINATOR MR. YAKUBU ATTENDS EXPORT PROMOTION COMMITTEE MEETING AS THEY DETERMINE OPERATIONS, MAINTENANCE AND STANDARD OF COMMODITIES CLEANING CENTRES IN SOME PARTS OF THE STATE

The Niger State Export Promotion Committee, led by the Permanent Secretary of Trade and Investment, Hon. Hamza Sarki Bello, convened a with the Niger State Coordinator of Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) Mr. Yakubu Mohammed in attendance.

The meeting agreed that the Sesame Cleaning Machine provided by the RMRDC in Lapai should be operated and managed by the Nigerian Association of Sesame Seed Farmers while the Commodity Cleaning Centre in Minna should be operated and managed by the J.M Goma Nigeria Limited.

the meeting seeks to identify how to aggregate agro commodities at the cleaning centers and pave ways for improving operation, and maintenance modalities and sharing formulas for commodities cleaning centers in Minna, Lapai, and Paiko.

The meeting also delved into various aspects of the commodities cleaning centers, including operational procedures, employment capacities, management, maintenance, storage, and the assurance of standards, particularly for sesame and soybeans destined for both local and export markets.

RMRDC NIGER COORDINATOR PLAYED HOST TO FORMER COMMISSIONER SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

The Niger State Coordinator, Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed played host to a Former Niger State Commissioner of Science and Technology who was also a former Commissioner of Special Duties, Alhaji Abubakar Katcha, on visitation today 28th November, 2023.

Alhaji Abubakar Katcha was received by the Niger State Coordinator RMRDC, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed.

The former Commissioner Alhaji Abubakar who was at the RMRDC Niger State Coordinating Office Minna said he was amazed by the development at the center and the achievements of the RMRDC under the leadership of Prof. Hussaini Doko Ibrahim, particularly the provisions of farm inputs to farmers and establishment of the Information and Resource Centre in Minna with different raw materials and finished products on display.

The Niger State RMRDC Coordinating Office Minna has been receiving various collaborations, partnerships and commendations under the excellent leadership of the Coordinator Mr. Yakubu Mohammed.

NIGER RMRDC HOST 6TH NATIONAL RAW MATERIAL QUIZ COMPETITION WITH FEDERAL GOV'T ACADEMY EMERGING WINNERS AT STATE LEVEL

Federal Government Academy Suleja emerges champions, while the Federal Staff School Minna won 3rd Position and St. Clement School Gbaiko emerged 2nd Runner-up of the 6th RMRDC Annual National Quiz Competition, held at the David Mark Hall, Hill Top Model School Minna, today, November 21st, 2023, with ten participating schools across Niger.

In an opening remark, the Niger State Coordinator RMRDC, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed said "The quiz which is an initiative under the able leadership of the DG/CEO RMRDC Prof. Hussaini Doko Ibrahim, aimed at exposing students to vital information on available raw materials and their economic benefits, adding that it also encouraged younger people to have an interest or start career on effective indigenous raw materials utilization".

Mr. Yakubu lauded the DG Prof. Hussaini Doko Ibrahim for his commitment to the promotion of information on raw materials research and development, especially the concern to impart knowledge to the younger generation through such quiz thereby encouraging publicity of research findings.

In her remark, S.S.O. Mrs. Zafirah Zakari Sabo highlighted the RMRDC Mandates and why students should imbibe lessons learned at the quiz.

Goodwill messages were delivered by the Niger State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Umar Yabagi, through the Head of Raw Materials Science and Technology in the Ministry, Mallam Aliyu Usman, and the
Principal of the Hill Top Model School Minna, Hajiya Halima Gogo Aliyu, praised the RMRDC DG Prof. Hussaini Doko and the RMRDC for exposing students to relevant ideas on raw materials availability and economic importance, even as they urged the students to key into learning more about raw materials utilization and value addition as their future career.

STAKEHOLDERS IN EDUCATION SECTOR URGES SECONDARY SCHOOLS TO EMBARK EXCURSION TO RMRDC RESOURCE AND INFO CENTRE TO PROMOTE LEARNING BEYOND CLASSROOMS

The need for students to be exposed to first-hand information on available raw materials and their finished products through excursions to the RMRDC Resource and Information Centre at the state coordinating offices has been stressed.

This came to fore when the Niger State Coordinator RMRDC Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, hosted Stephen S. Bonkat of the Niger State Science and Technical Schools Board and Mr. Yakubu Mohammed of the Day Secondary School Dandaudu during a visit to the Niger State Coordinating Office of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Minna, today November 20th 2023.

The Niger State Coordinator RMRDC Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, conducted Mr. Stephen Bonkat and Mr. Mohammed who were visibly impressed around the Information and Resource Centre in Minna.

RMRDC NIGER COORDINATOR ATTENDS EXPORT PROMOTION COMMITTEE MEETING
..ADVOCATED REGULAR MONITORING AND EVALUATION

The Niger State Coordinator, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, attends the Meeting of the Niger State Committee on Export Promotion, with a call for regular monitoring and evaluation to enhance service delivery and promote value-chain.

The meeting held today 13th November 2023 at the Niger State Secretariat Chambers of Commerce Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Trade Fair Complex Minna was aimed at reviewing activities of the committee during the period under review.

Speakers at the meeting advocated for regular monitoring and evaluation of export commodities.

The committee comprised of the RMRDC Niger State, Niger State Ministry of Industries, Trade and Investment, Niger State Commodity and Export Promotion Agency, Niger State Ministry of Agriculture, Nigeria Export Promotion Council, Nigeria Shippers Council, Nigeria Shippers Association, Sesame Seeds Association, and the Nigeria Customs Service among others.

The gathering also evolved more synergy and plans for the 2024 work plan.

The Niger State Coordinator RMRDC, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, alongside S.O. Mustapha Mohammed Nma, P.O II Umar Salihu Adamu, and other members of the Niger State Export Promotion Committee were also at the Multipurpose Agro Produce Cleaning Point at the Farm Centre in Minna, Niger State, to assess the level of operations.

The Niger State Coordinator, RMRDC, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, while receiving the DG NSCEPA, expressed delight over the visit and highlighted core programmes of the RMRDC to include, Raw Materials Information promotion, National Raw Materials Research Technology Development, Local Raw Materials Content Development, Investment Promotion, Raw Materials SME Development in addition to the mandate of liaising with relevant regulatory agencies for the standardization of raw materials to meet industrial specification, and promoting Nigeria’s competitiveness in raw materials and products development.
