NG-CARES TRAINS GBV TEAMS TO STRENGTHEN GRIEVANCE REDRESS MECHANISMS IN NIGER STATE

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and promote inclusive development, the Commission, in collaboration with the Federal and State NG-CARES Coordinating Units, has successfully concluded a three-day capacity development workshop for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Response Teams in the State.

The training was designed to enhance the ability of GBV officers and safeguard teams to address gender-based violence, sexual exploitation and abuse, and sexual harassment, while promoting a responsive and transparent Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) across all NG-CARES implementing platforms.

Through a series of intensive sessions, participants were equipped with practical tools and strategies to ensure fairness, confidentiality, and accountability in handling GBV-related cases, reflecting the programme’s commitment to inclusive growth, gender equity, and social safeguards in line with international best practices.

This initiative reaffirms the State Government’s commitment to protecting the rights of vulnerable groups, enhancing citizen engagement, and ensuring that development interventions remain people-centred, transparent, and responsive to community needs.

CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP FOR NEWLY INDUCTED STAFF

The Niger State Planning Commission has successfully concluded a two-day capacity development workshop for its newly inducted staff. The programme was designed to equip participants with the requisite knowledge, skills, and orientation needed to contribute effectively to the Commission’s mandate and the overall development of Niger State.

Through a series of interactive and practical sessions, participants were exposed to the Commission’s institutional processes, performance expectations, and strategies for professional growth, with a particular focus on aligning individual competencies to the Commission’s strategic objectives.

The training highlights the Commission’s unwavering commitment to building a skilled, motivated, and performance-driven workforce capable of advancing evidence-based planning, sound policy formulation, and sustainable development initiatives across the State.

2026 BUDGET SCREENING EXERCISE

The Niger State Planning Commission has commenced the 2026 Budget screening exercise.
This exercise, preceded by a comprehensive statewide stakeholder consultation, represents a vital phase in the State’s budgetary process. MDAs are engaging in bilateral discussions to present and defend their proposed recurrent and capital estimates, alongside revenue projections.

The screening process is anchored on the principles of fiscal discipline, accountability, and alignment with the State’s strategic development agenda. It ensures that resources are allocated judiciously and that public expenditure reflects the priorities articulated during the stakeholder consultations.

Through this process, the 2026 Budget will be strengthened as a credible instrument for promoting inclusive growth, sustainable development, and improved welfare for the people of Niger State.

UNDP / NGS NORTHWEST FACILITY PROJECT: SUPPORTING DISPLACED PERSONS IN NIGER STATE

Last week, a brainstorming session on the UNDP/NGS Northwest Facility Project, targeted at supporting displaced persons across the state, was hosted by the Commission.

Chaired by the Honourable Commissioner, Mustapha Ndajiwo, the engagement brought together Honourable Commissioners and representatives from key MDAs to deliberate, share insights, and brainstorm innovative approaches to addressing the pressing housing needs of internally displaced persons and affected communities.

The session served as a platform to align state priorities with development partner interventions, ensuring that strategies are inclusive, sustainable, and impactful. Discussions focused on tailored solutions that address humanitarian needs while building long-term resilience and opportunities for affected populations.

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT ON 2026 BUDGET PREPARATION AT BOSSO LGA

The 2026 Budget Preparation Stakeholder Engagement continued with a successful session at Bosso Local Government Area. The forum brought together a wide range of voices from the community, creating a platform for meaningful dialogue on the development priorities of the area.

Representatives from youth and women’s groups, traditional institutions, persons with disabilities, civil society organizations, religious leaders, and the private sector all contributed valuable insights and recommendations.

VALIDATION MEETING ON THE DRAFT EFU–FSP–BPS (2026–2028)

A strategic meeting with stakeholders across government, civil society, and development institutions was held for the validation of the Draft Economic and Fiscal Update, Fiscal Strategy Paper, and Budget Policy Statement (EFU–FSP–BPS) 2026–2028. A crucial milestone in the Niger State’s medium-term planning and budget formulation process.

Designed to strengthen fiscal discipline, align sectoral priorities, and promote transparency, the EFU–FSP–BPS provides the policy and economic foundation for the 2026 budget and beyond. 2026 PRE-BUDGET MEETING WITH MDAs

The Niger State Planning Commission convened the 2026 Pre-Budget Meeting with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to deliberate on strategic issues critical to realigning our focus and refining our collective approach in delivering institutional mandates.

The gathering marked the revival of pre-budget consultations, an avenue to reflect on past efforts, identify gaps, and reposition for a more impactful and inclusive future.

The Niger State Planning Commission successfully hosted the 2025 Planning Commission Day. A high-level event aimed at reinforcing coordination, policy alignment, and inclusive development planning across departments within the commission and MDAs of the state.

The event brought together commissioners, permanent secretaries, heads of MDAs, and development partners to engage in strategic dialogue, review implementation frameworks, and promote a unified vision for development in Niger State.

Under the leadership of the Honoruable Commissioner, Mustapha Ndajiwo, the Commission remains committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders, local and international, to deliver a more inclusive, prosperous, and resilient Niger State.
