Benue State Urban Development Board Enforces Development Plan in Makurdi, Reaffirming Governor Alia's Vision for a Modern Capital

Makurdi, Benue State – September 11, 2025 – Under the decisive leadership of Town Planner (TPL) Ternongo Mede, the Benue State Urban Development Board (BSUDB) has demolished structures encroaching on the Ishaya Bakut Way and other rights-of-way in Makurdi. These buildings violated the state's approved development plan, posing risks to public safety and urban infrastructure. Additionally, the Board marked illegal building developments at the Welfare Quarters, Makurdi, as part of its enforcement drive.

This action underscores the unwavering commitment of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, Governor of Benue State, to transform Makurdi into a modern, sustainable city. By enforcing zoning regulations and clearing encroachments, the administration is prioritizing orderly growth, improved traffic flow, and enhanced living standards for residents.

*BENUE STATE URBAN DEVELOPMENT BOARD ENGAGES STAKEHOLDERS ON GAS STATION FACILITY IN WURUKUM, MAKURDI*

Makurdi, Benue State - September 3, 2024 - The Benue State Urban Development Board (BSUDB), under the leadership of General Manager TPL Ternongo Mede, conducted a stakeholders' engagement with community members around the gas station facility situated within a settlement on the Iorchia Ayu road, Wurukum, Makurdi.

The engagement aimed to gather feedback from residents on the siting of the facility, following reports that contradicted the Board's earlier decision to decline approval for the facility. To facilitate this, the Board printed questionnaire forms to collect responses from household owners around the facility.

TPL Ternongo Mede, General Manager of BSUDB, emphasized the Board's commitment to protecting lives and properties in Benue State, as reiterated by His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Governor of Benue State. The Board's stance on the gas station facility is guided by urban planning regulations and safety standards.

RESTORATION OF BENUE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY QUARTERS RECREATIONAL PARK IN NYIMAN LAYOUT, MAKURDI

Makurdi, Benue State - September 1, 2025 - In a significant development, the Benue State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has directed the Benue State Urban Development Board (BSUDB), led by General Manager TPL Ternongo Mede, to restore the park within the former Benue State Assembly Quarters complex in Nyiman Layout, Makurdi, to its original purpose as a recreational park for the community.

This decision comes after the 10th Benue State House of Assembly members converted the park into the Benue State Assembly Commission Complex, prompting the Benue State Assembly Quarters Community to appeal to the Governor. Notably, the park had previously been encroached upon by individuals who built structures, leading to its demolition by the Benue State Urban Development Board.

The Governor's directive underscores his administration's commitment to community welfare and urban development. The Benue State Urban Development Board will work expeditiously to implement the Governor's directive and restore the park to serve its intended purpose.

Benue State Urban Development Board Undertakes Strategic Demolition Exercise in Makurdi Metropolis

The Benue State Urban Development Board, under the dynamic leadership of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, today, August 1, 2025, conducted a targeted demolition exercise within Makurdi Metropolis to ensure compliance with urban planning regulations and enhance public safety. This action underscores the Governor’s unwavering commitment to creating a safe, organized, and sustainable urban environment by addressing encroachments on highways and public rights-of-way.

The demolition exercise focused on structures illegally extending onto roads in the following areas:
1. Titogate T Junction
2. Konshisha Street, Low Level
3. Iorchia Ayu Road, close to City Bay
4. Jillah Ase, opposite D-Division, Makurdi
5. Directly opposite Total Filling Station, Ibrahim Kashim Way

Prior to the exercise, affected property owners were duly notified and given ample time to comply with the Board’s directives. The removal of these structures aligns with the state government’s vision to decongest highways, improve traffic flow, and safeguard lives and property.
