On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, I, Mustapha Muhammad Adam, Deputy Publicity Secretary of the NNPP Borno State Chapter, join the global community in reaffirming the fundamental importance of a free, independent, and responsible press as a cornerstone of democratic governance.

Press freedom remains essential to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. An empowered media not only informs the public but also strengthens institutions and promotes constructive civic engagement. The role of journalists as custodians of truth and public interest is indispensable, particularly in environments where access to accurate and timely information is critical.

We commend the resilience, professionalism, and dedication of media practitioners in Borno State and across Nigeria, many of whom continue to discharge their duties under challenging circumstances. Their contributions to peacebuilding, public awareness, and democratic development are worthy of recognition and support.

The NNPP Borno State Chapter reiterates its commitment to upholding freedom of expression and supporting policies and actions that ensure the safety, independence, and ethical practice of journalism. We call on all stakeholders government institutions, political actors, civil society, and citizens to respect and protect the rights of media professionals in accordance with democratic principles and the rule of law.

As we mark this significant day, we urge continued collaboration in fostering a media environment that is free, fair, responsible, and conducive to national development.

NNPP NAME NEW CHAIRMAN AS AJUJI DEFEATS TO ADC

The New Nigeria People’s Party on Sunday announced the emergence of Bala Mohammed as its new National Chairman, following the resignation of Ajuji Ahmed, who has defected to the African Democratic Congress.

The leadership change, approved by the party’s National Working Committee, comes amid growing realignments within opposition ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja. Johnson described Mohammed, a former National Organising Secretary from Kaduna State, as an experienced administrator equipped to lead the party through a challenging political climate.

The party also confirmed the departure of its former chairman, expressing appreciation for his service while wishing him well in his future endeavours.

He said, “The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party is pleased to announce the election of Bala Yunusa Mohammed as our new National Chairman.

“The NNPP takes this opportunity to formally acknowledge the departure of Dr Ajuji Ahmed, who has resigned his appointment to join the African Democratic Congress.

“On behalf of our national leadership, the National Executive Committee, and our teeming members, we thank Dr Ajuji Ahmed for his dedicated service. We recognise the contributions he made during his tenure and sincerely wish him the very best in his future political endeavours.”

The NNPP added that the leadership change comes at a critical time for the country, citing worsening economic conditions and political tensions ahead of the next election cycle.
The party also expressed confidence in Mohammed’s ability to reposition it, noting that his emergence reflects a renewed push to consolidate its structures and strengthen its electoral prospects.

“Our democracy is under attack, but the NNPP remains a sanctuary for the hopes of the common man. Under the leadership of Honourable Bala, we are not just preparing for an election; we are preparing to salvage a nation.

“We have absolute confidence that our new chairman will steer this great party through these turbulent waters with integrity and courage. His emergence signals a unified front against the forces of regression and a renewed vigour to offer Nigerians the governance they truly deserve.

“We call on all party faithful and well-meaning Nigerians to rally behind the new leadership as we fortify our ranks. The journey to 2027 is a marathon, and the NNPP is now better positioned than ever to cross the finish line as the party of the people,” he added.

WE MUST PUT A STOP TO THIS UNPATRIOTIC ADMINISTRATION IN BORNO STATE

It has been over 25 years of hardship for the resilient people of Borno State under a system that has consistently failed to deliver meaningful progress. The dominance of a one-party structure, led by the APC, has not only weakened democratic accountability but has also entrenched poor governance, lack of transparency, and unfulfilled promises.

This prolonged control has created a dangerous environment where the people have gradually lost faith in politics and governance. Many citizens, especially the youth, have been made to believe that real change is impossible. Elections have come and gone with little to no improvement in their daily lives, leading to frustration, apathy, and a growing sense of hopelessness. This is the direct consequence of a system that prioritizes power over service.

Borno State, which has endured more than 15 years of insecurity, deserves far better. What the people need is not continued control by the APC or a one-party system, but a strong, vibrant, and principled opposition that can offer real solutions restoring peace, creating jobs, empowering the youth, and ensuring social welfare for all.

The people of Borno are tired of empty promises. Those who once operated under the PDP and now rebranded platforms such as ADC cannot be trusted, having previously betrayed the confidence of the masses during their time in power. The cycle of deception must end.

The NNPP stands as a credible alternative. Under the exemplary leadership of Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso PhD, whose tenure in Kano State demonstrated commitment to development, transparency, and people-centered governance, we are inspired to deliver real change.

We believe in a new direction one that restores hope, rebuilds trust in politics, and ensures that governance truly serves the people. The NNPP in Borno State is committed to working tirelessly to uplift the lives of citizens, restore dignity, and build a future of hope and opportunity.

Together, we will work for the masses and bring back the belief that change is possible.
