KOGI STATE GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA

PRESS RELEASE

ATTACK ON SOME KOGI STATE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS

1. Gentlemen of the press, we wish to report, with every sense of sobriety, the unfortunate attack by some gunmen on a Commissioner in the Kogi State Pension Commission, Late Hon. Solomon Adebayo and also the Chairman of Yagba West LGA, Hon. Pius Kolawole on their way back to the State from Kwara State.

2. We can confirm authoritatively that the unfortunate incident happened shortly after Eruku, Ekiti Local Government, Kwara State. Hon. Adebayo died as a result of gun wounds sustained from the sad incident.

3. The whereabouts of Hon. Pius Kolawole, Chairman of Yagba West LGA is still unknown but security agencies in both Kwara and Kogi State, as well as local security services are working hard to ensure the safe return of the Chairman.

4. Despite happening on Saturday, the Kogi State Government has been circumspect in making official statements in order not to do anything to throw into jeopardy, the efforts of security agencies on the matter. But it is also incumbent on a responsible Government like ours to speak to our people and assure them that Kogi will spare nothing to remain the safest in the country.

5. We also wish to caution those making statements which are capable of undermining the security of the State to desist from such an unpatriotic wish for anomie. It is high time we came together to make our nation safe, secured and governable.

6. The Government and the people of Kogi State are also determined to make Kogi peaceful and safe. Our Government has the backing of the people and the security agencies to keep Kogi safe.

7. We commiserate with the family of late Hon. Solomon Adebayo, the people of Yagba West and the entire Kogi State Pension Commission over the demise of a hardworking and patriotic gentleman who contributed immensely to our Pension Administration Revolution in the State. He will be sorely missed.

Signed: Hon. Kingsley Fanwo

The Enduring Measure of Greatness: The Asuku Example
By Oshaloto Joseph Tade
5 Mins read

"Mr Asuku is a cynocure of human interests today not just because he holds one of the most coveted positions in the state but because many owe their debts of career successes, social capitals and even of their being alive and healthy to God through him. And this is instructive for anyone desiring to please the Almighty."

The Bible emphatically teaches in the synoptic gospels that whoever would be great must make himself available to serve. Of course, this sort of service is not the type that seeks the approval and praise of man but of God Almighty. This principle is no respecter of religion, race or even age. And in...

Kogi State government had in the past been widely faulted for its inability to pay workers their salaries and emoluments.

The government on the other hand has attributed this challenge to the humongous corruption going on within its civil service.

To finally nip this problem in the bud, the Executive Governor of the state Alhaja Yahaya Bello has adopted a new payment model called table payment. The table payment is ongoing.

What are your thoughts on this?

13/07/2018

Since inception, Kogi has been run without a cogent policy direction. The growth of the state had been at the mercy and speed of the governors' impulses.

Today, the story has changed. The current administration now has a policy document called the New Direction Blueprint.

Do you think that this would move the State forward?

11/07/2018

Lokoja the Kogi State capital stands out as one of the cleanest state capitals in Nigeria.

This success is courtesy of the good residents of the state and the tireless efforts of the Gov Yahaya Bello administration's commitments toward a model capital city.

What are your comments on the Waste Management policy of the New Direction government?

13/02/2018

We are taking Kogi to another level. Over 35 firms have concluded plans to move into the State and boost our economy. New Direction is the Right Direction.

And it begins..

The first Kogi State Economic and Investment Summit starts today. With over three hundred local and international investors already on ground in Lokoja, history is being made.

To open up the Confluence State for industrialization and more commercial activities, Governor Yahaya Bello had to tackle insecurity; ensuring security of lives and property in the state. Today, Kogi is far safer than has ever been. This makes it easy for the government to consolidate business growth.

Today, national and international leaders of thought and industry will be brainstorming for the next two days on how best to ensure industrialization and to enhance commercial activities of the state.

The summit themed "Discovering Uncommon Investment Opportunities in the Confluence" will be declared open by the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN).

Details later.

Confluence Governors from Day one.

August 27th, 1991, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (Rtd.) the then military President of Nigeria created nine more states. They are: Abia, Enugu, Delta, Jigawa, Kebbi, Osun, Kogi, Taraba and Yobe. This makes the total number of states in Nigeria thirty in 1991.

Kogi state was carved out of the old Kwara and Benue states. Here is the list of the governors that have ruled the state since its creation.

Brigadier General Danladi Mohammed Zakari (Rtd.) was the first Military Administrator of Kogi State, Nigeria after it was created. He held office from August 1991 until January 1992.
He was saddled with the establishment of the administrative structure of the state from scratch.
He handed over to an elected governor at the start of the Nigerian Third Republic.

Prince Abubakar Audu was twice the democratically elected Governor of Kogi state. His first tenure was from January 1992 taking over from the pioneer governor of the state until November 1993. And the second from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2003 in the fourth republic.

Col. Paul Uzoanya N. Omeruo (Rtd.) a Military Administrator ruled from December 1993 to August 1996 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha.

Col. Bzigu Lassa Afakirya succeeded Col. Omeruo (Rtd.). He ruled between August 1996 to August 1998 under the military regime of General Sani Abacha.

Gen. Augustine Aniebo was the Military administrator of Kogi from August 1998 to 29 May 1999 during the transitional regime of General Abdulsalami Abubakar, handing over to the elected governor Abubakar Audu on May 29, 1999 at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic.

Ibrahim Idris, a businessman took over from Prince Audu. He served two terms, April 2003, and reelected in April 2007.

Clarence Olafemi was appointed acting Governor of the State in February 2008 after the election of governor Ibrahim Idris was annulled. He handed back to Ibrahim Idris on 29 March 2008 after Idris had won a fresh election.

Idris Ichala Wada on December 9, 2011 was elected as the 3rd civilian Governor of Kogi State.

Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello on the 27th day of the month of January in 2016 became the fourth and the current governor of the Confluence State.

Out of the ten leaders of the state, six were military administrators, while four are civilians. They have contributed their quota towards developing the state.

It is our responsibility as good citizens to support, critique and suggest ways to move the state forward.
