SUSTAINED COLLABORATION WITH NSCDC PIVOTAL TO MITIGATING INSECURITY IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS KOGI STATE COMMANDANT

Aletan Olumide Ebenezer underscored the critical importance of continuous engagement between the Corps and educational bodies as a primary strategy for curbing insecurity within tertiary institutions.
This assertion was made during a formal reception at the State Headquarters in Lokoja, where the Commandant hosted the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye. The Vice-Chancellor's courtesy visit was convened to fortify the existing synergy and collaborative frameworks between the two agencies.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor articulated that the primary objective of the visit was to deepen the cooperation between the university and the Corps. Emphasizing the symbiotic relationship, he remarked, "We are two institutions that work together and are inseparable." He further highlighted the unique characteristics and strategic location of the university, noting that these factors necessitate a heightened and visible presence of the Corps within the institution to ensure safety.
Elaborating on internal measures, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the university management is currently devising robust initiatives aimed at enhancing the institution's security architecture and maintaining orderliness within the system. He also took the opportunity to commend the Commandant for his transformative leadership and structural advancements within the Command, describing these improvements as exemplary and worthy of emulation.
In his response, Commandant Aletan Olumide Ebenezer expressed gratitude for the visit and lauded the Vice-Chancellor for his action-oriented approach since assuming office. He noted that the Vice-Chancellor has demonstrated remarkable preparedness and dedication to his role.
Reiterating the Corps' mandate, Commandant Aletan affirmed that the university remains a critical national asset and infrastructure falling under the protective jurisdiction of the NSCDC. He assured the university management of the Corps' unwavering commitment to ensuring maximum security compliance without compromise.
Furthermore, the Commandant briefed the management on a strategic initiative by the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR. This initiative involves the establishment of National Safe School Response Coordination Centre, designed to guarantee the safety and security of students and educational facilities nationwide.
Based on a recently threat assessment carried out by the Corps,Commandant Aletan offered specific advisory recommendations to the institution such as regular engagement of the students, Lecturers and everyone in the school ecosystem/school community with a view to receive first hand information on any development in the school and environs and many more others to which the management readily accepted and pledged to implement.
He reaffirmed the Corps' promise to work hand-in-hand with the university administration and requested that relevant research outputs from the institution be shared with the Corps to aid operational enhancement.
The visit concluded with a ceremonial exchange of plaques between the two institutions, symbolizing their renewed commitment to partnership.
