Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid has opened up about his departure from Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), alleging that the record label and its founder, Banky W, were not transparent in their dealings with him.

According to Wizkid, the contract he initially signed after joining EME did not include any clause requiring him to deliver five albums to the label. He explained that after releasing his successful

Superstar and Ayo albums, he was presented with a new agreement introducing terms he had never agreed to.

"There was never a written agreement that I was going to make five albums for the record label. It was after I released Superstar and Ayo that a new agreement was given to me, and I refused to sign it," he said.

The award-winning singer also claimed that the royalties he received from the two albums were "peanuts," describing the earnings as disappointing despite the commercial success of the projects.

Faced with what he considered unfair treatment, Wizkid said he made the difficult decision to leave EME without demanding any compensation or taking anything from the label.

His remarks have reignited discussions about artist-label contracts, transparency in the music business, and the importance of fair royalty agreements within the African music industry.

A YORUBA MAN WROTE.

This is why history must be taught in our schools. Those who neglect History are bound to repeat the mistakes of the past.

The story is told of how King Yunfa, the Hausa Sarki in Gobir (now called Sokoto) hosted a Fulani immigrant called Usman Dan Fodiyo and his group in February 1804, as a result of this and since 1808 the whole of the northern region lost its kingdoms and were replaced by Fulani emirates.

King Yunfa is said to have been killed in 1808 and the Fulani warrior (Usman Dan Fodiyo) established Sokoto caliphate, making himself Sultan.

Gradually, other Hausa kingdoms were pillaged and taken over by the Fulani emirs including all the kingdoms ruled by Queen Amina of Zazzau... Little wonder, the Emirate throne of Zaria today is ruled by Fulani Families which Usman Dan Fodio placed on throne as a reward to his Soldiers.

The ethnic groups in the core north were the first victims of Fulani imperialism, a venture that occurred because the people were given access to grazing land as a result of the hospitality of the hosts.

They however failed to overrun the Bornu and Jukun kingdoms , so the Shehu of Bornu and Aku Uka remains paramount till today!

The Afonja dynasty compromised by allowing a Fulani warrior known as Janta Alimi to settle in Ilorin, the Fulani guerrillas killed Afonja in 1824

And Ilorin, a Yoruba town under the Oyo empire, fell into Fulani hands, becoming an emirate under Sokoto caliphate till today! Even the attempts of the O'odua People's Congress (OPC) to revert to status quo ante and crown an Onilorin of Ilorin became an exercise in futility.

The Yoruba warriors got wise and defeated the Fulani jihadists in Osogbo 1840, if this didn't happen there would most likely have been Fulani "emirs" as rulers in Oyo Alaafin, Ibadan, Owo, Oshogbo, Ede, Ado, and Igede Ekiti today! Fulanis are like Bears. Unless resisted, it’s strategy is to get close to the victim,

Keir Starmer is hitting back at Donald Trump after he orders a review of Britain's claim to Falkland Islands 😯

Downing Street said the UK 'couldn't be clearer' about Britain's sovereignty over the Falkland Islands after leaked messages suggested the US might order a review in retaliation over Iran.

On Thursday evening it emerged that the unpredictable US commander-in-chief is considering punishing Britain for not co-operating with the chaotic Iran war.

A leaked Pentagon email outlines options for Trump to hit back at Nato allies for lack of support in the Middle East, according to Reuters 📧

These include reassessing US diplomatic support for European "imperial possessions" - like the Falklands, which are in the South Atlantic near Argentina.

A No10 spokesman said: "We could not be clearer about the UK's position on the Falkland Islands. Its longstanding and unchanged sovereignty rests with the UK and the island's right to self-determination is paramount, and it's been our consistent position and will remain so."

He continued: "UK sovereignty and the islanders' right to self-determination is not in question. And we've expressed that position clearly and consistently. We'll continue to do so."

Asked if the UK was in a position to defend the islands, the spokesman said: "That is not the situation we're in. That's a hypothetical."

The US President's comments will not make the PM change course on Iran, the spokesman said. Buenos Aires asserts a claim over the islands - also known as Las Malvinas - which are administered by the UK. The US supported Britain’s efforts to retake the islands during the Falklands War in 1982, a conflict which saw 650 Argentine soldiers and 255 British troops die.

On November 19, 2024, the Nigerian Railway Corporation spent ₦87 million to purchase eight smart TVs and install DSTV with just one month subscription in their waiting rooms.

On May 26, 2025, the Pension Transitional Arrangement Department spent ₦6.8 million for just 20 litres of groundnut oil. The same 20 litres that sells for about ₦40,000 in the market.

On June 30, 2025, the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation approved ₦5.4 million to purchase a microwave oven and an electric kettle. Items that don’t even come close to that amount in any sane market.

On December 31, 2025, another ₦8.8 million was paid for tea supply for September and October. That same day, another ₦8.8 million was paid again for tea supply for November and December.
And nobody is asking questions.

Nobody is being held accountable.
Because the truth is simple. The people who are supposed to question these things are doing the same thing in their own offices.

That is why figures like ₦6.8 million for 20 litres of groundnut oil can be written boldly without fear. That is why ₦5.4 million for a microwave and kettle can pass through the system without anyone blinking.

In any sane country, nobody writes down that ₦6.8 million was spent to buy what costs less than ₦40,000 in the market and walks away freely. There would be investigations. There would be consequences. But here, it has become normal.

This is not governance. This is open, shameless looting dressed up as official spending.
