ADVOCACY|CHARITY|EMPOWERMENT. Email:[email protected] +234-803-7233498 The Ghetto Love project is a brainchild of the BBC "Welcome to Lagos" documentary star, VOCAL SLENDER, where he draws the attention of the public (locally & internationally) to the plight and sufferings of the Ghetto children & youth in Ajegunle slum in Lagos, Nigeria where the one-time scavenger was born & bred. The
sole aim of his initiative is to draw public attention to the plight and sufferings of the Ajegunle children and youths. This is achieved by collaborating with NGOs, Corporate bodies and individuals in offering scholarships, feeding, bringing medical aid, marking national holiday parties (such as Children’s day) & offering a music platform to perform for the numerous up and coming Ajegunle musicians to perform. The first Ghetto Love event held on 12th November 2011 on Oyegunle Street, Ajegunle where clothes & food were shared for the children that participated and subsequently two other editions were staged with improved incentives. On February 18th 2012, the 2nd edition was staged to celebrate Valentine day with Ajegunle children and youths. Items distributed include used clothes, toys & books. The children were fed while various up and coming artistes had a platform to perform to the audience. The high point of the Valentine ’s Day edition was the offering of scholarship to Gloria Peters, a 15 year old orphan who never went through primary school education but currently in JSS1 at Oshodi Grammar School. On May 27th 2012, the Children’s day edition (3rd edition) was held at 21, Lawani Street, Ajegunle, Olodi-Apapa, Lagos. We partnered with REAL VISIONARIES INITIATIVE, NIGERIA, a Non-governmental Organization that runs medical screening exercises in Nigeria. The group came with its team of medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists amongst other volunteers to offer free medical consultation, counselling and health talks to an average audience of 500 people (children, youth & adults). Free drugs were given to the participants. The impact of this edition was heartwarming as the people were full of praises as it was the period when all General hospitals in Lagos (including General Hospital, Ajeromi Ifelodun) were non-operational as the Lagos doctors were on strike. The next event will be announced subsequently. Are you interested in supporting the Ghetto Love project? Kindly send a mail to [email protected]
