Be careful who you build with… not everyone is building with you.

I recently watched the movie Everything We Built… and one thing stayed with me betrayal can never come from strangers.

It comes from the people you built with.

The ones you trusted.
The ones you shared ideas with.
The ones who knew your dreams from the beginning.
And that’s what makes it hurt differently.

Because it’s not just about what was done…
It’s about who did it.

There’s a kind of pain that comes from watching something you invested in..... your time, energy, emotions—slowly fall apart… not because it wasn’t good enough, but because someone you trusted chose otherwise.

And in real life, this doesn’t only happen in big projects or businesses.
It happens in:
Friendships
Relationships
Partnerships
Even within communities

You give your all…
And then one day, you’re left questioning everything.

But here’s what I’m learning…
Not everything that breaks you is meant to end you.

Sometimes, it’s a redirection.
Sometimes, it’s exposure.
Sometimes, it’s growth in disguise.

Because the truth is:
People can be part of your journey without being part of your destination.

So if you’ve ever been betrayed…
If you’ve ever had something “you built” fall apart…
You’re not alone.
And more importantly
you’re not finished.
You can rebuild.
Stronger. Wiser. More intentional.

One thing nobody tells you about growth…

Is how lonely it can feel.

When you start changing,
you notice some conversations don’t excite you anymore.
Some habits don’t feel right anymore.
Even some people… you just don’t connect the same way.

At first, I thought something was wrong with me.

Why am I outgrowing things so fast?
Why do I feel different?

But I’ve realized

Growth will separate you before it elevates you.

Not everyone will understand your new mindset.
Not everyone will align with your new standards.

And that’s okay.

You’re not losing people,
you’re finding yourself.

So if it feels like you’re walking alone right now…

Keep going.

You’re not empty.
You’re evolving.

Protect your growth, it’s worth it

There’s something about personal branding that nobody really told us…

And honestly, I wish I knew earlier.

My mentor, Dr. Tim, always talks about it — a lot.
One thing he emphasizes is using your real name, especially on platforms like Facebook.

Not “Mhiz cho cho”
Not “Itz Zaki guy” 😂

At first, it didn’t feel like a big deal…

Until something happened.

A few weeks ago, after a very stressful exam, I was completely exhausted.
I got home only to realize that my school ID card was missing — only the rope was left on my neck.

And I had another exam the next day.

Panic.

The next morning, I got a call from an unknown number.

A man told me that the bus driver I entered had found my ID and gave it to him.
He happened to be a lecturer, so he searched my name on Facebook… found me… and reached out.

Just like that, I got my ID back in less than 24 hours.

Now imagine if my name was “Itz crazy phina” 😂
Would he have found me?

That moment changed something for me.

Personal branding is not just for influencers or business owners.
It’s how you position yourself — your name, your presence, your identity.

Because one day, an opportunity, a connection, or even a solution…
might be looking for you.

And the question is ...
will they find you?

I didn’t just ‘go off’… I got overwhelmed.

There were days I had so many plans of writing, posting, building, showing up…
But somehow, I started feeling tired.
Not just physically… but mentally.

You know that moment when:
You open your phone to create… and then you close it again.
You have ideas… but no energy to bring them to life.
You want to be consistent… but everything just feels like too much.
That was me.

So I stepped back.
Not because I gave up…
But because I needed to breathe and realign.

And now, I’m choosing to start again
Slowly. Intentionally. Gently

If you’re in that space too…
This is your sign that it’s okay to pause,
but don’t stay there too long. 💖✨
One thing I've learnt is that motivation would always die down but discipline keeps you moving even when you don't feel like it

I'm still figuring it out but still moving forward ☺️

Today I saw the Forbes list of the richest women in Africa, and I paused for a moment.

Instead of just scrolling past it, I said something quietly to myself:
One day, my name will be on a list like this.

Not out of pride. Not out of noise. But out of vision.

Because success doesn’t start the day people recognize you.

It starts the day you decide to believe in your own potential.

One day the world will read the name Philomina Egar and know the story behind it.

The late nights. The discipline. The courage to keep building even when no one was watching.

I believe that when hard work meets faith, incredible things can happen. Married or not!

I will be a BILLIONAIRE!

God will do it. Amen

I had just returned from school, tired and hungry.

Almost immediately, my mum and dad also came back from work.
You could tell they were exhausted.

The kind of tired that sits on your shoulders.
Honestly, I was tired too.

So the first thing I did was take my bath, hoping that by the time I came out, maybe food would be ready.

But when I stepped into the kitchen…
There was no food.
Just an empty pot and the quiet reminder that dinner hadn’t been made.

A few seconds later, my mum walked into the kitchen too.
Still in her work clothes.
Still clearly tired.

And without complaining, without resting first, she immediately started bringing out ingredients.

Before I knew it, we were both in the kitchen making dinner.
And while we were cooking, something crossed my mind.

Mothers are incredible.

Because the truth is, she was probably more tired than I was.
She had been at work all day.
She had every right to sit down and rest.
But instead, she stepped into the kitchen to make sure her family had something to eat.

And that’s when it really hit me.

So many times, we enjoy the results of a mother’s sacrifice without even realizing the strength behind it.

The late nights.
The early mornings.
The quiet sacrifices nobody applauds.
A mother may be tired.
A mother may be stressed.
A mother may even be overwhelmed.
But somehow, she still finds a way to show up for the people she loves.

That’s why mothers are nothing short of superheroes.
Not because they wear capes.
But because love keeps them going even when their strength is almost gone.

Today just reminded me of something simple but powerful:
Sometimes the greatest acts of love are the quiet ones that happen in ordinary kitchens.

Yesterday, something happened that reminded me how fragile confidence can be.

For a long time, I thought I had finally conquered my fear of speaking in public.

I had read books about communication apprehension.

I had practiced speaking in front of people.

I had networked, introduced myself to strangers, and forced myself into conversations that once made me uncomfortable.

I had even gone as far as hosting a class on communication apprehension, teaching others how to overcome the fear of public speaking.

So in my mind, I had crossed that bridge.

Confidence?
Oh, I thought I had it figured out.

Or so I believed.

Then yesterday happened.

I attended an event hosted by someone I knew. It was supposed to be a simple gathering. I was relaxed, enjoying the atmosphere, chatting with people.

Then suddenly, the host looked at me and said,
“Philomina, please come make a toast.”

A toast.

Something I had done countless times.
Something that should have been easy.
But the moment I stood up and walked toward the front, something strange happened.

My heart started racing.
My palms became sweaty.
My mind which usually had so many words — suddenly felt empty.
When I opened my mouth, my voice cracked.

For a moment, I didn’t even know what to say.
It was such a small moment, but inside me it felt like a storm..
Eventually, I said something short, smiled, and sat back down.

From the outside, it probably looked normal.
But inside, I kept thinking about it.

And that’s when the realization came quietly to me:

Confidence is fragile.

Not because we haven’t grown.
But because we are human.
Sometimes we think once we overcome something, it is gone forever.
But growth doesn’t work like that.

There will always be moments that stretch us again.
Moments that remind us that courage is not a one-time achievement.
It is a continuous practice.

Even the most confident people still experience nervous moments.
Even the strongest voices still shake sometimes.
And that’s okay.

Because confidence is not the absence of fear.
It is the willingness to show up anyway.
Even when your voice trembles.
Even when your palms are sweaty.
Even when the moment catches you unprepared.
Because nobody is perfect.
And maybe that’s the point.
We are not called to be flawless.
We are called to keep growing

“One of the greatest life lessons I learnt today didn’t come from a billionaire or a motivational speaker… it came from ants.”

Today in church, I was reminded of something so simple yet so powerful… ants.

Tiny creatures.

Almost invisible.

Easy to ignore.
Yet if you observe them closely, they carry lessons many humans still struggle to learn.

Ants never believe in impossible.
Have you ever watched an ant trying to carry food?
Sometimes the load is several times bigger than its body, yet it keeps pushing, pulling, and trying again.
No complaints.
No giving up.
Just persistence.
And somehow… it works.

Their results are far bigger than their size.

Ants also understand something many of us forget: preparation.
They work today for a season that has not yet arrived.

While others are relaxing, they are preparing.
No wonder the Bible even says to learn from them.
Maybe the lesson is this:
You don't have to be the biggest in the room.
You don't have to have the loudest voice.
You don't have to start with the most resources.

Sometimes, all you need is the mindset of an ant:
Keep moving.
Keep trying.
Keep preparing.

Because consistency can produce results that are bigger than you.

So today I ask you:
Are you thinking like an ant… or giving up like a human?

You are valuable because God created you on purpose.

Before anyone formed an opinion about you, God already called you good.

Before rejection showed up, God already wrote your acceptance.
Your worth was never meant to be voted on by people who didn’t make you.

If God calls you chosen, loved, and enough , then shrinking to fit broken standards is no longer an option.
