DSCTDA Cracks Down on Illegal Structures, Evicts Setback Traders in Asaba
By Chibuzor Kingsley
The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), in collaboration with the State Task Force on Environment, has intensified its crackdown on environmental violations across Asaba, targeting illegal structures and traders operating on road setbacks.
The enforcement exercise, which commenced on May 4, covered major areas including McDon Road, High Court Road (Event Centre axis), GRA Estate, the Cenotaph area, and DBS Road. During the operation, illegal traders were evicted, while unauthorised and makeshift structures were dismantled.
As the exercise progressed, the agency’s Corporate Affairs team, led by Ms. Ngozi Peter, engaged residents, business owners, landlords, as well as keke and bus operators, sensitising them on the importance of maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
Representing the Director-General, Mr. Patrick Ukah, the Head of Operations, Mr. Isaac Nwosu, supervised the exercise and reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental infractions.
He warned that several residential areas and business premises would be sealed in the course of the operation, adding that offenders would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“The Director-General has made it clear that the agency will not relent until the capital territory is clean. Anyone found violating environmental regulations will be arrested and taken to court,” Nwosu stated.
The agency noted that the exercise will continue in the coming days as part of sustained efforts to ensure a cleaner, safer, and more organised capital territory.
Residents and business operators have been advised to comply with environmental regulations to avoid sanctions.
