APC Reportedly Selects Damilola Sonayon-James as Hamzat’s Running Mate for 2027 Lagos Governorship Race

There are strong indications that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has settled for Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as its deputy governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship election.

Sources within the party revealed that Sonayon-James is expected to run alongside Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who recently emerged as the APC governorship candidate.

A familiar face in grassroots politics, Damilola Sonayon-James serves as the Deputy State Chairman of the APC in Lagos State.

She rose to prominence as the State Assistant Woman Leader and was later elevated to the role of Deputy State Chairman of the APC in Lagos State.

She has also served as a Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West LCDA.

Beyond politics, she is also an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) expert and Sustainability Risk Consultant with years of experience in public service and community development.

She is from the royal family of Kweme Kingdom in Badagry West LCDA and has remained actively involved in political mobilization and grassroots engagement within the area.

A toddler, Christianah Akanbi, aged 2, of Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School is among the 46 persons.

39 students – were abducted from Community High School Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.

Thirty-nine children are tonight living through fear no child should ever know — separated from their families, uncertain of tomorrow, and trapped in trauma that may leave scars for years.

In Oyo State, the pain is not only carried by grieving parents, but by an entire society watching innocence come under attack.

Every passing hour deepens the anguish, anxiety and emotional devastation for these children and their loved ones. No community can thrive when its children are unsafe.

Authorities and security agencies must act with urgency, coordination and compassion to secure the immediate release of these children and reunite them with their families.

Nigeria’s children deserve protection, not terror. Silence and delay are not options.

Nigeria continues to face painful moments of kidnapping, insurgency, and senseless killings across different parts of the country.

Our thoughts remain with the families who have lost loved ones and communities affected by these criminal acts.

We commend the gallant men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for their courage, sacrifices, and recent successes in dismantling criminal networks, rescuing victims, and restoring peace in troubled areas.

Their patriotism and commitment to national security remain deeply appreciated.

However, more must be done through stronger intelligence gathering, improved welfare for security personnel, modern security equipment, community collaboration, and swift justice against perpetrators of violence.
