The real measure of a food security initiative is what it means in someone’s home.

Yesterday in Anambra State, the National Community Food Bank Programme completed its nationwide rollout across all six geopolitical zones, with the South-East launch formally led by Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, alongside His Excellency, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of Anambra State, and other stakeholders.

At the Bank of Agriculture, we serve as the Custodian and Trust Manager of the Food Bank Trust Fund, and we take that responsibility seriously. We are supporting the systems behind an initiative that is bringing food and nutrition support closer to vulnerable Nigerians.

Together, we are building stronger connection between the farmers who produce our food and the communities that need it, while strengthening the systems that support food security across the country.

The rollout may be complete, but the work continues. The real measure of success will always be what happens beyond the launch , when support reaches the people who need it and makes a difference in their everyday lives.

The impact of the Guaranteed Minimum Price (GMP)
Programme starts with the farmer but extends far beyond the farm.

When farmers are protected from sharp price declines at harvest, they are better positioned to recover their costs, plan for the next season, and continue producing. Through structured aggregation and market infrastructure, the programme also helps secure grain within the food system at a time when Nigeria is focused on strengthening domestic production and food security.

The GMP Programme is expected to protect over 500,000 farmers, secure 400,000 metric tonnes of grains and reach 11.25 million households nationwide.

This is the significance of building stronger market structures around agriculture: protecting those who produce our food while strengthening the systems that get food to Nigerian households.

You don’t have to own a farm to have a place in agriculture.
Sometimes, the biggest opportunity isn’t in producing the food. It’s in everything that happens around it.

to our webinar on Beyond the Farm, where, Favour Adeleke, Founder of Qiqi Farms, shared the difterent areas to explore across the agricultural value chain.

Before putting money, time and energy into an agricultural business, understand the people, the market and the problem you are trying to solve.

For anyone looking to build in agriculture, Favour’s message is simple: don’t produce first and hope the market comes later. Build with demand in mind.

For every farmer, the journey to harvest is only half the story.
The other half is getting that harvest to the market and getting a fair and reliable price for it.

That is where the Guaranteed Minimum Price Programme comes in.

Aggregation is now underway as farmers bring their commodities to designated aggregation centres and warehouses, where they are weighed, graded and received into a structured market system.

From harvest to aggregation, pricing and payment, GMP is helping to build a clearer pathway to market for Nigerian farmers.

Because when farmers have greater confidence in the market, they can plan, produce and grow with greater certainty.

This is GMP in action.

The Food Bank Train has made its way to South-South.

Calabar, Cross River State, was the latest stop in the journey of the National Community Food Bank Programme, as Her Excellency, , CON, led the South-South Zonal Launch alongside key stakeholders.

As Custodian and Trust Manager of the Food Bank Trust Fund, the Bank of Agriculture is supporting the programme’s implementation and nationwide reach, working with stakeholders to help deliver its mandate of strengthening food security and supporting vulnerable Nigerians.

Here are some moments from the South-South Zonal
Launch.

What does it take to build an agricultural economy that works for more people? A big part of the answer is how we think about finance.

At the Africa Food Systems Forum, our MD/CEO, Ayo Sotinrin spoke about the need to make financing work for more young people and women, and why getting farmers closer to the market is just as important.

That thinking is also at the heart of BOA's Guaranteed Minimum Price (GMP) programme, helping farmers move beyond production by creating a more structured link between what they produce and the market waiting for it.

Here are a few key takeaways from the conversation.

Before you build a solution for agriculture, there’s something you need to understand first: the problem.

At our Beyond the Farm webinar in celebration of International Youth Day, Prince Achoja shared an important perspective for young people looking to build in agritech: Agriculture doesn’t need technology for technology’s sake. It needs solutions that respond to real people, real challenges and real gaps.

For young innovators, the opportunity is to get close to the problem, understand the ecosystem and then build solutions that truly work. Don’t start with the technology. Start with the problem.

What’s one problem in agriculture you believe technology should be solving today? Tell us in the comments.

The conversation around Africa’s food systems is changing and so must the way we finance them.

At in Kigali, our Executive Director, Operations and Information Technology, Mr. Tosin Salami, brought BOA’s perspective to a high-level session on Mobilising Innovative Financing for Inclusive Agrifood Systems Transformation.

The discussion moved beyond the familiar question of how much money agriculture needs to a more important one: how do we make capital work harder across the entire agrifood system?

For Bank of Agriculture, that means financing the wider ecosystem around the farmer, from inputs and mechanisation to aggregation, storage and markets, while making farmers and value chains more organised and bankable.

Through initiatives like the Guaranteed Minimum Price (GMP) Aggregation Programme, BOA is putting this approach into practice, connecting farmers to aggregation and structured markets, while ensuring payments are direct, traceable and designed to strengthen participation across the value chain.

The conversation around smarter, more inclusive agrifood finance is one we must continue. Thank you AKADEMIYA, InternationalFoodPolicyResearchInstitute, GIZ, AFSF for this important dialogue at .
