SMEDAN, on its part, will identify and encourage qualifying SMEs to list on recognized exchanges, expanding their access to funding and business growth opportunities.

The collaboration will also facilitate debt market participation by guiding creditworthy SMEs to issue debt securities to qualified investors, thereby widening their financing options beyond traditional bank loans.

Both institutions will jointly organize a three-day national SME conference to engage stakeholders, promote market opportunities, and drive policy discussions.

SPEECH BY THE HONOURABLE COMMISSIONER, MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY, PLATEAU STATEON THE OCCASION OF WORLD FOOD DAY CELEBRATION, HELD ON 16/10/ 2025

Protocol

It is with great pleasure that I join you today to commemorate the 2025 World Food Day under the theme ‘Hand in Hand for Better Food and a better future.’ This year’s celebration provides us with an opportunity to reflect on how we can strengthen the link between agriculture, industry, and commerce to achieve sustainable food systems in Plateau State.

The Importance of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Sustainable Agriculture

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) form the backbone of our economy. Across Plateau State, thousands of small processors, traders, and agro-based entrepreneurs play a vital role in adding value to what our farmers produce. From tomato and Plateau potato processing in Barkin Ladi, to vegetable packaging in Jos North, to grains and honey aggregation in Langtang — MSMEs provide jobs, income, and stability for our communities.

Sustainable agriculture cannot thrive without functional markets and strong value chains. MSMEs serve as the bridge between farmers and consumers — they process, package, transport, and market agricultural commodities, thereby reducing post-harvest losses and increasing food availability year-round.

What the Ministry Has Done

Under the leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor, and through the Department of Nutrition of the Ministry, we have been intentional about strengthening MSMEs in the agricultural value chain.

Recently, we organized a training workshop for MSMEs on nutrition commodity packaging. The goal was to help small businesses improve food safety standards, enhance product attractiveness, and meet both local and export market requirements.

We have also provided capacity development on branding, access to finance, and quality assurance — because we recognize that when MSMEs grow, the agricultural economy becomes more resilient and sustainable.

MSMEs and Nutrition Security

Our emphasis on nutrition-sensitive enterprises is deliberate. By promoting processing and packaging of nutrition-rich commodities such as vegetables, soybeans, and cereals, we are tackling both malnutrition and poverty simultaneously. This approach aligns with our State’s Food System Transformation Pathways, and complements the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as all the Nutrition Focal Ministries in the State.

The Way Forward

To deepen the contribution of MSMEs to sustainable agriculture, the Ministry is working on the following strategies:

Improving Market Infrastructure and Data Systems – through planned Monitoring and Evaluation of markets across the three geopolitical zones.

2. Facilitating Access to Finance and Equipment – by linking MSMEs to funding windows of the Bank of Industry (BOI) and SMEDAN.

3. Encouraging Innovation and Green Production – to promote climate-smart enterprises that utilize renewable energy and minimize waste.

4. Strengthening Partnerships – between government, private sector, and development partners to scale successful initiatives in agro-processing and trade.

Conclusion

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, as we mark this year’s World Food Day, let us remember that food security goes beyond farming — it requires enterprise, innovation, and inclusive growth. MSMEs and industries are the catalysts that turn agricultural potential into sustainable prosperity.

Plateau State has all it takes — fertile land, entrepreneurial youth, and a supportive Government. With continued collaboration, our dream of a vibrant, nutrition-secure, and industrially active Plateau is within reach.

Thank you, and God bless Plateau State.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

SMEDAN Registration Form Online: Eligibility and How to Register

September 16, 2025 by yeidep

Introduction to SMEDAN Registration Form Online

The SMEDAN registration form online has become a vital tool for Nigerian entrepreneurs and small business owners. It gives them access to government support, funding opportunities, and recognition that can help their businesses grow. This form is designed to simplify the process of registering businesses, making it easier for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to thrive in Nigeria’s competitive economy.

Every business owner who completes the SMEDAN registration form online receives a Unique Identification Number (SUIN) and a certificate that proves official recognition by the Nigerian government. These documents add legitimacy to a business and create opportunities for access to loans, grants, and mentorship. This initiative plays a central role in helping local businesses achieve sustainability and visibility.

Since its launch by the Federal Government in 2003, SMEDAN has remained committed to empowering Nigerian entrepreneurs. Through its online registration process, it ensures that support reaches millions of businesses, especially those needing finance, training, and policy advocacy.

Key Takeaways of SMEDAN Registration Form Online

The first thing to know is that SMEDAN stands for Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria. Its primary focus is to support, promote, and develop MSMEs across Nigeria. By registering with SMEDAN, entrepreneurs gain access to essential services that help their businesses survive and expand.

To start the registration process, business owners simply need to visit the official SMEDAN portal. On this platform, they will find the online form where personal and business details must be provided. After submission, successful applicants receive a certificate and SUIN, which are sent directly to their registered email addresses.

SMEDAN membership is available to small and medium-sized businesses that meet specific requirements. These include being based in Nigeria, complying with legal regulations, and operating within eligible sectors. Once registered, businesses stand a better chance of receiving government recognition and financial support.

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Fill SMEDAN Registration Form Online
The process of completing the SMEDAN registration form online is simple and straightforward. First, entrepreneurs need to visit the official SMEDAN registration portal through a browser. From there, they can create an account by entering their personal or business details, such as business name, phone number, email, and a password.

Next, applicants are required to provide further details about their businesses. This includes the registered address, business type, number of employees, and description of products or services. It is important to provide accurate and truthful information because the certificate and SUIN will be based on these details.

Once all information is submitted, the system generates a certificate that includes the SUIN. This certificate is then sent to the email address used during registration. Business owners can easily download and print this certificate, which will serve as official evidence of SMEDAN recognition.

Who is Eligible for SMEDAN Registration?

Before filling out the SMEDAN registration form online, it is important to check whether you are eligible. SMEDAN has set specific requirements that determine who can apply and benefit from its programs. The first condition is that the applicant must be running a small or medium-sized enterprise in Nigeria.

Eligibility also depends on the legal status of the business. While not all applicants are required to have Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) documents, some programs may require CAC registration, articles of incorporation, or certificates of business registration. This ensures that only legitimate businesses benefit from the support.

Another important eligibility requirement is compliance with Nigerian business laws and regulations. Applicants must provide valid identification such as a National ID, Passport, or Driver’s Licence. Age restrictions also apply, as eligible applicants are generally expected to be between 18 and 45 years old to qualify for youth empowerment initiatives.

Benefits of Registering for SMEDAN Online Form

Registering for the SMEDAN registration form online opens up several benefits for entrepreneurs. One of the most important is business credibility. A SMEDAN certificate gives official recognition and builds trust with customers, partners, and potential investors. It positions businesses as credible and government-recognised.

Another major benefit is access to funding opportunities. Businesses registered with SMEDAN are more likely to qualify for loans, grants, and intervention funds from both government and private institutions. This financial support plays a huge role in helping businesses scale their operations.

SMEDAN also offers training programs, workshops, and mentorship opportunities for registered businesses. These capacity-building programs improve business skills, increase productivity, and provide access to networks that connect entrepreneurs with markets at both local and international levels.

Business Growth Opportunities Through SMEDAN Registration Form Online
SMEDAN registration is not only about recognition but also about growth opportunities. Registered businesses are connected to new markets through trade fairs, exhibitions, and government-backed partnerships. These opportunities help entrepreneurs expand their customer base and explore international trade possibilities.

The agency also supports businesses with advisory services such as business planning, branding, marketing, and financial management. These services guide entrepreneurs in making informed decisions and staying competitive in their industries.

Moreover, SMEDAN creates special programs like the Cluster Development Support (CDS) and Products and Marketing Enhancement Scheme (PAMES). These programs provide targeted support to businesses in areas such as infrastructure, branding, and technology adoption.

Importance of SMEDAN Certificate and SUIN
The SMEDAN certificate and SUIN obtained after completing the registration process are valuable assets for any business owner. They prove that the business has been officially recognised by the Nigerian government. This recognition gives confidence to investors, partners, and customers.

The SUIN also acts as a unique identifier for businesses, making it easier for them to be tracked, supported, and included in national statistics. This helps government and stakeholders design policies and interventions tailored to the needs of registered businesses.

In addition, the SMEDAN certificate is useful when applying for business grants, loans, or partnerships. Many funding agencies and investors often request for it as part of the eligibility requirements before approving financial support.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Filling SMEDAN Registration Form Online

While filling out the SMEDAN registration form online, many applicants make avoidable mistakes that delay or cancel their applications. One of the most common errors is providing incorrect or incomplete information. This often leads to rejection or the need to restart the process.

Another mistake is using inactive email addresses or phone numbers. Since the certificate and SUIN are delivered through email, it is essential to use an active and accessible email account. Applicants should also double-check their phone numbers for proper communication.

Finally, some applicants forget to keep a copy of their certificate after downloading it. This document should be saved both digitally and in print because it will be required for verification when applying for loans, grants, or training opportunities.

Conclusion: Why You Should Register with SMEDAN Today.

The SMEDAN registration form online is a gateway for Nigerian entrepreneurs to access growth, recognition, and funding opportunities. It provides a simple way to get government recognition while building credibility with customers and partners. Every business owner seeking support in Nigeria should consider registering.

By completing the form, entrepreneurs gain access to numerous benefits including finance, training, networking, and policy advocacy. This recognition is not just about having a certificate; it is about opening doors to expansion and long-term sustainability.

SMEDAN continues to serve as a bridge between Nigerian small businesses and government-backed opportunities. Registering today could be the most important step towards growing your business and securing a brighter future in the Nigerian economy.
