PAMZI JAMANG
GOVT HOUSE CORRESPONDENT.

The National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Plateau State Chapter, has commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for what it described as remarkable achievements in road infrastructure, security, and governance over the past three years.

The State Chairman of the Union, Yakubu Dalyop, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Government House Jos.

Speaking during the visit, Yakubu Dalyop said the Union, which operates through 86 branches across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, has witnessed firsthand the positive impact of ongoing road rehabilitation projects.

He noted that improved road networks have enhanced transportation and economic activities across Plateau State, assuring the Governor of the Union’s continued support for his administration.

The NURTW Chairman also applauded the government’s ban on illegal motor parks, describing the measure as a significant step towards curbing criminal activities and improving public safety.

He further appealed to the state government to construct standard motor parks across the state to strengthen security, improve transport operations, and boost internally generated revenue.

Responding, Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed appreciation for the visit, describing the NURTW as a critical stakeholder in the transportation sector and a valuable partner in promoting security.

The Governor noted that beyond facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services, members of the Union have assisted security agencies in combating crimes, including the trafficking of illicit drugs and small arms.

Governor Mutfwang also commended the Plateau State chapter of the NURTW for maintaining a low rate of road accidents in recent years and assured the Union of the government’s support to enable it contribute more effectively to national security and development.

As a mark of appreciation, Governor Mutfwang announced the appointment of the NURTW State Chairman, Yakubu Dalyop, as Senior Special Assistant on Labour, with an official vehicle attached to the office.

“I’ve been in Jos for like 5 days now and I have a lot to say.

Firstly, I never knew a people could be this nice and kind and respectful.

I almost felt sick because I never knew people could still be like that.

Lagos has fr¡ed my brain. People call you Sir while offering every service to you.

From the suya guy to the super market attendant to the local restaurant to every single person.

I’ve never seen this before in my life. In Lagos, the way I know the food in a restaurant would be good is if the woman is rude.

I never trust the food of a polite food seller in Lagos.

But I’m here where everyone treats you with respect.

Then things are cheaper. The uber that will normally cost 10 million naira here in Lagos is 2,500 here.

I’ve never seen life lived like this before. I see clear road everywhere.

I’m not scared of holding my phone carelessly.

Hotel is cheap with free WiFi. Omo. Jos na place”

— A man has shared an emotional account of his first few days in Jos, describing the city as a place of rare kindness, calm living, and unexpected affordability compared to Lagos

Education Sector Scorecard: Raising Standards, Expanding Opportunities

Dr Kachollom Gang - Commissioner for Education

Education remains one of the strongest foundations for sustainable development, and the Plateau State Government says its vision is not just to increase access to education, but to raise standards, improve learning outcomes, and prepare a new generation of leaders and professionals capable of competing globally.

Some Achievements Highlighted by the Commissioner

✅ Commitment to improving the quality of education across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions in the state.

✅ Sponsorship of Plateau indigenes for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in various countries and institutions, providing opportunities for students to acquire knowledge and skills in critical fields of development.

✅ Emphasis by Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang that the scholarship process should be driven primarily by merit, while also ensuring fairness and inclusion across the state's geopolitical zones.

✅ Continued support for teacher development and capacity-building programmes aimed at improving classroom instruction and learning outcomes.

✅ Efforts to improve educational infrastructure through renovation, rehabilitation, and provision of facilities in schools across the state.

✅ Promotion of policies aimed at increasing access to education, particularly for young people who may otherwise be unable to pursue higher learning opportunities and for those who seek education elsewhere, rather than their homeland.

You Decide!!

Have educational standards improved in our schools?

Are teachers and students experiencing positive changes?

Is the scholarship programme transparent and reaching deserving beneficiaries?

Are school facilities improving in your community?

Has government done enough to prepare Plateau youths for the challenges of a competitive global economy?

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the administration's performance in the education sector and why?

THE AGRICULTURALSECTOR: CITIZENS DECIDE...!!

Hon Samson Bugama - Commissioner for Agriculture
Hon Sunday Akpa - Commissioner for Livestock Investment

As the economic realities continue to bite harder across the country, one of the earliest interventions of the Plateau State Government in the agricultural sector was the procurement of 64,000 bags of fertilizer aimed at cushioning the impact on farmers, boosting food production, and improving food security across the state. Farmers were also captured through a digital registration system to ensure inputs reached genuine beneficiaries directly.

Some of the Achievements Highlighted by the Agriculture and Livestock Sectors

✅ Procurement and distribution of subsidized fertilizers and other farm inputs to farmers across the 17 LGAs.

✅ Digital registration and mapping of farmers to reduce diversion of inputs and improve planning.

✅ Establishment and expansion of the Plateau Farmer Data Bank, with hundreds of thousands of farmers reportedly captured for better targeting of government interventions.

✅ Investment in agricultural mechanization, including the procurement and deployment of tractors to improve farm productivity and reduce reliance on manual labour.

✅ Promotion of youth-focused smart agriculture programmes aimed at creating jobs and attracting young people to modern farming.

✅ Continued efforts to improve rural access roads, helping farmers move produce from farms to markets more efficiently.

✅ Support for livestock transformation initiatives and partnerships designed to modernize livestock production and create value-chain opportunities.

✅ Promotion of improved animal feed production, including innovative livestock feed projects such as Alfalfa cultivation trials in Plateau State.

✅ Collaboration with federal and private-sector stakeholders to expand livestock development and create employment opportunities in the sector.

So tonight, you decide:

Have these interventions made a noticeable difference in your community?

Has access to fertilizer and farm inputs improved agricultural output where you live?

Are young people becoming more interested in agriculture?

Is the livestock sector moving in the right direction?

What more should government do to make food affordable and agriculture profitable?

Score the Agriculture and Livestock sectors of the administration from 1 to 10 and tell us why.
