YIPMONG ATTENDS VALEDICTORY SESSION IN HONOUR OF RT. HON. PETER AZI, BIDS HIM FAREWELL
The Deputy Speaker of the 8th and 9th Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Saleh Shehu Yipmong, today attended a solemn valedictory session held in honour of his father, mentor, boss and colleague, Rt. Hon. Peter Ajang Azi, who passed away.
In an emotional tribute, Yipmong recalled the warmth, camaraderie and shared experiences that defined the 8th Plateau Assembly under Azi’s leadership. He described the late former Speaker as a towering statesman, a man of vision, principle and uncommon wisdom whose footprints remain indelible in the sands of Plateau politics.
"The late Rt. Hon. Peter Azi was not just a Speaker, he was a builder. He worked tirelessly and selflessly for the growth of the legislative arm and for the overall development of Plateau State. His tenure was marked by unity, decorum, and a deep commitment to service," Yipmong stated.
He further eulogized Azi as a bridge-builder per excellence, a leader who believed in inclusion, fairness and the dignity of the people. According to him, the deceased dedicated his life to bringing governance closer to the people, mentoring younger legislators, and entrenching democratic values in the State.
"The vacuum left by his demise will be difficult to fill. He was a father to many, a counselor, and a voice of reason in both good and challenging times. Plateau has lost a patriot, Afizere Nation has lost an illustrious son, and the Assembly has lost a guiding light," he added.
The former Deputy Speaker extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family, the entire Afizere Nation, colleagues, associates, and the Government of Plateau State. He prayed to Almighty God to grant the departed eternal rest and to comfort all those mourning him.
Rt. Hon. Yipmong also prayed for the repose of his soul and for the faithful departed, asking God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
