The Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. CM AKALIRO, MSS Psc fwc fdc(+) CM MBA MPA Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, paid a courtesy visit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Taraba State Command to strengthen collaboration in tackling drug abuse and insecurity.

He emphasized the strong nexus between drug abuse and insecurity and assured the Command of sustained synergy, intelligence sharing, and joint operations.

In his response, the State Commander, Javanson Talayedi Kwalma, fdc, MNIM, appreciated the visit and highlighted key challenges, including office accommodation, while reaffirming the Command’s commitment to a drug-free and secure Taraba State.

On 16th February, 2026, the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Taraba State Command, CN Javanson Talayedi Kwalma fdc, MNIM, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, Professor Sunday Bako Paul.

The State Commander appreciated the Vice Chancellor for his unwavering commitment to the fight against drug abuse and commended the University for establishing the Directorate for the Prohibition of Narcotic Drugs and Substance Abuse — a bold and pioneering initiative.

Discussions centered on the implementation of the Drug Integrity Test policy and the need for stronger collaboration to ensure a safe and drug-free campus environment.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor described the visit as timely and reaffirmed the University’s readiness to fully implement the integrity test policy while strengthening partnership with the NDLEA.

Together, we remain committed to protecting our youths and securing a drug-free academic environment.

‎Today, in order to strengthen inter-agency relationships and deepen collaboration within the criminal justice system, the State Controller, Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Taraba State Command, CC John Francis, paid a strategic courtesy visit to the State Commander NDLEA, CN Javanson Talayedi Kwalma, fdc, MNIM.

‎The visit was aimed at formalizing and consolidating the existing synergy between both agencies, as well as leveraging the established collaboration for enhanced operational effectiveness. Deliberations also focused on strengthening intelligence sharing, particularly in the proper classification of suspects transferred to custodial centres. Emphasis was placed on clearly identifying high-risk individuals whose profile may pose security concerns, thereby enabling correctional authorities to plan and manage such inmates appropriately.

‎In his response, the State Commander, CN Javanson Talayedi Kwalma, fdc, MNIM, warmly welcomed CC John Francis and his entourage and apologized for the earlier delay in approving the visit due to unavoidable administrative exigencies. He assured the State Controller that henceforth, all high-risk suspects being transferred will be clearly indicated in formal correspondence to facilitate proper classification and secure management.

‎The State Commander further emphasized the critical and indispensable role of the Nigeria Correctional Service in the criminal justice system, particularly in the custody, reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of offenders. He also encouraged the Service to formally notify the Command whenever it intends to conduct sensitization and awareness programmes for inmates, assuring them of the Command’s full support.

As part of the Agency’s statutory mandate to curb drug abuse, strengthen preventive strategies, and deepen collaboration with traditional institutions, the State Commander today paid a courtesy visit to the Village Head of Lankaviri at his palace.

The visit was aimed at creating sustained awareness on the dangers of drug abuse, fostering synergy, and strengthening community-based collaboration in the fight against illicit drug use and trafficking. The State Commander emphasized the critical role of traditional rulers as custodians of culture and grassroots mobilizers in influencing positive behavioral change, especially among youths.

In his response, the Village Head of Lankaviri warmly welcomed the delegation and commended the Agency for its proactive engagement at the community level. He assured the Command of his unwavering support and readiness to work hand in hand with the Agency to promote a drug-free society. The traditional ruler further pledged to sensitize his subjects and support all initiatives geared towards achieving the Agency’s mandate.

The visit reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with traditional institutions as a strategic approach to effectively tackling drug abuse at the grassroots.
