Kwara Youth Assembly: G15 Calls for Peace, Condemns Alleged Betrayal and One-Man Leadership Style in Kwara APC

The Kwara Youth Assembly has reported the position of the Kwara APC G15 following recent political developments in Ilorin, where the group reaffirmed its commitment to peace while expressing deep concerns over what it described as betrayal, exclusion, and a growing culture of one-man leadership within the party.

According to the G15, the coalition was formed out of a shared concern over what its members perceive as Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's (GAA) leadership style, which they described as increasingly centralized and lacking the broad consultation and inclusiveness that brought the party to power.

The group maintained that many of its members were among the principal political leaders and stakeholders who worked tirelessly and made significant sacrifices to ensure Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq emerged as Governor of Kwara State. It therefore expressed disappointment over what it described as a pattern of betrayal and the sidelining of those who played critical roles in the struggle that led to the party's electoral success.

The G15 disclosed that it deliberately postponed its planned rally after receiving credible information that a counter-rally was being planned. According to the group, the decision was taken solely to preserve peace, prevent unnecessary confrontation, and demonstrate political maturity.

However, the group alleged that despite this peaceful gesture, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (GAA) and the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suleiman Danladi (SYD), proceeded with actions that it believes were deliberately intended to provoke tensions rather than promote reconciliation.

Despite these developments, the G15 stated that it exercised restraint and refused to engage in any act capable of disrupting public peace, insisting that responsible leadership requires patience, maturity, and respect for democratic engagement.

The group further argued that moments of political disagreement should be opportunities for dialogue and harmonization rather than further division. It maintained that the responsibility of leadership is to unite people, build consensus, and strengthen the party instead of encouraging internal polarization.

The G15 therefore called on all APC members, supporters, and political stakeholders in Kwara State to avoid personal attacks, inflammatory statements, and actions capable of escalating the current situation. It urged all concerned to embrace peaceful dialogue in the overall interest of the party and the people of Kwara State.

The Kwara Youth Assembly reports that the G15 reaffirmed its commitment to the ideals of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and maintained that its struggle is not against individuals but for a more inclusive, consultative, and united party where every stakeholder is respected and carried along.

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE KWARA YOUTH ASSEMBLY (KYA)

RE: ESCALATING INSECURITY IN KAIAMA LGA AND THE CONTINUED FAILURE OF GOVERNMENT TO PROTECT LIVES

The Kwara Youth Assembly (KYA) strongly condemns the latest bandit attack on Kemanji land in Kaiama Local Government Area, which has reportedly claimed the lives of five security operatives. This tragic incident, coming on the heels of earlier coordinated attacks on Woro, Nuku, and Duruma communities, is a clear indication that insecurity in Kwara North is spiraling out of control.

It is deeply disturbing that weeks after the Woro attack, where over 174 women and children were abducted and remain in captivity, there has been no tangible progress or reassuring update on rescue efforts. The silence and apparent inaction from relevant authorities is unacceptable.

As the Chief Security Officer of Kwara State, His Excellency Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq must be held accountable for the safety and protection of lives and property across the state. Likewise, the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Bio, cannot remain passive while his constituents continue to live under constant threat, displacement, and fear.

The much-publicized “Operation Savanna,” introduced by the Federal Government in response to the Woro attack, has so far yielded no visible or measurable success. The people of Kwara North are yet to feel its impact, as bandits continue to operate with alarming boldness and impunity.

Kwara Youth Assembly demands the following:

1. Immediate and intensified security operations in Kaiama LGA and surrounding communities.
2. A transparent and urgent update on efforts to rescue the 174 abducted women and children.
3. Clear accountability from both the state government and local authorities regarding lapses in security response.
4. A comprehensive and sustained security strategy that goes beyond media announcements and delivers real protection to affected communities.

We will not stand by while our people are abandoned to their fate. The lives of Kwarans, especially those in vulnerable rural communities, must not be treated as expendable.

This is just a failure in the security architecture.
