PRESS STATEMENT ON MANDATORY USE OF TAXPAYER IDENTIFICATION (TAX ID) ON ALL OFFICIAL TRANSACTIONS AND DOCUMENTS
The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) notifies the general public, particularly taxable persons, including corporate organizations and relevant stakeholders in the State, that the use of Taxpayer Identification (Tax ID) is mandatory for all tax-related transactions with the Service in line with the provisions of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act (NTAA), 2025.
Section 8 (1) of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act (NTAA), 2025 provides that the Tax ID shall be stated on any Annual Tax Return, notice, correspondence or document submitted, lodged, or used for tax compliance; stated on any document prepared, produced, issued or submitted in respect of a transaction; and is a mandatory condition for entering into any contract with a Federal, State, or Local Government, Ministry, Department or Agency (MDA).
In view of the above, all applications, requests, letters, and other official correspondences submitted to the Service must clearly state the Tax ID of the originating individual or organization, otherwise, such documents may be deemed invalid and shall not be processed.
All taxable persons including corporate organizations and accredited tax agents are hereby enjoined to take note of this directive in respect of filing of Annual Tax Returns and ensure strict compliance, as any tax return filed without a Tax ID shall be deemed as not filed and shall attract the applicable penalties.
Be informed that individuals and corporate organizations can retrieve their Tax ID using their National Identification Number (NIN) or Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number respectively on taxid.nrs.gov.ng or taxid.jrb.gov.ng.
