Zamfara Govt in Talks with Chinese Company for Major Energy Project

The Zamfara State Government is planning to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese solar energy company to boost electricity supply across the state.

This was disclosed by the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce and Industries, Hon. Abdulrahman Mu’azu Tumbido, during an exclusive interview.

According to the Commissioner, the proposed agreement with the Chinese solar firm is part of the state government’s broader strategy to attract foreign investment and expand renewable energy development in Zamfara State.

Hon. Tumbido explained that the partnership is expected to support the establishment of solar power projects that will significantly improve electricity supply, stimulate economic activities, and create employment opportunities for residents.

He further revealed that the initiative will also introduce electric solar-powered vehicles with subsidized transportation services to operate within Zamfara State and beyond. This, he said, forms part of the government’s efforts to modernize the transportation sector while promoting clean and sustainable energy solutions.

The Commissioner noted that Zamfara possesses lithium deposits and strong potential for solar energy generation due to its abundant sunlight throughout the year, making the state an ideal destination for renewable energy investments.

He added that discussions with the Chinese company are progressing steadily, and once the agreement is finalized, the project will contribute significantly to improving energy access, promoting clean transportation, and supporting industrial growth in the state.
