KWASAA, ARCON to Engage Stakeholders on Political Adverts Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency, (KWASAA) in collaboration with the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, (ARCON) will on Thursday, August 27, 2026, hold a one-day stakeholders’ engagement on advertisement and campaign communications ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The engagement is scheduled to hold at the Ilorin Innovation Hub, Ahmadu Bello Way, Ilorin, by 10:00 a.m.

Speaking at the press conference held today at the Ministry of Communications, the Acting General Manager of KWASAA, Oloruntoba Akin Adeyeye, ARPA, said the meeting would bring together political parties, political actors, advertising practitioners, media organizations, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders in the advertising and political communication ecosystem.

Adeyeye said the engagement became necessary to create a common understanding on the rules guiding political advertising, campaign communications and the use of public spaces for advertisements as the 2027 electioneering period approaches.

He noted that the forum would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to understand applicable regulatory requirements, address concerns and clarify issues relating to permits, campaign advertisements, billboards, signage and other forms of political communication.

The Acting GM added that security agencies and other stakeholders would also have the chance to raise concerns within their areas of responsibility, while practitioners and political actors would engage directly with regulatory authorities.

Adeyeye emphasized that KWASAA’s responsibility goes beyond revenue generation, stressing the agency’s commitment to ensuring that advertising activities in the state promote professionalism, public safety, environmental aesthetics and compliance with the law.

He expressed concern over possible proliferation of unauthorized campaign materials and structures during the election period, adding that early engagement, education and collaboration were essential to prevent violations and ensure a well-regulated advertising environment.

The Acting GM urged all stakeholders, particul

The Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KWASAA) has warned political aspirants and parties against erecting unauthorized billboards across the state without obtaining the required approval from the agency.

The warning was issued by the AG General Manager, Toba Adeyeye, during the agency’s official visit to Kwara South as part of its ongoing sensitisation and enforcement drive.

He emphasized that the administration of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has recorded remarkable achievements in the beautification and restructuring of the state, noting that such progress must not be undermined by unauthorized billboard placements.

“His Excellency has done a lot in repositioning Kwara State through urban renewal and environmental improvements. As an agency, we will not allow any aspirant or political party to jeopardize this great progress with illegal billboard installations” he stated.

The AG General Manager reiterated that KWASAA remains open to all stakeholders, including political aspirants and parties, for proper approval of billboards and other advertising-related matters.

He further disclosed that the agency is currently developing a well-structured layout for political campaign advertisements across the state to ensure orderliness, safety, and improved aesthetic standards.

“As part of this initiative, KWASAA will organise a special stakeholders engagement forum for political aspirants and parties in April. The forum is aimed at fostering dialogue, providing guidance, and ensuring full compliance with signage and advertisement regulations” the AG General Manager added.

The Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KWASAA) has raised concerns over the proliferation of unregulated advertisements on mini buses (Korope) and Tricycles (Keke Marwa) in the state.

Speaking at a meeting with different leadership groups of the Transport Associations in the state today, the Ag. General Manager of KWASAA, Mr. Toba Adeyeye, explained that the trend had opened doors for scammers and individuals selling unapproved drugs and beverages to circulate misleading and potentially dangerous messages to the public
Mr. Adeyeye who emphasized that the safety and well-being of Kwarans remain paramount to the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, maintained that the Agency would not tolerate any advertisement capable of posing risks to members of the public.

The General Manager therefore announced that any individual, business or organization seeking to advertise on mini buses or tricycles must formally write to KWASAA, attach the proposed advertisement design and secure official approval before such materials could be displayed by transport operators.

Responding on behalf of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the State Secretary, Alhaji Yemi Aliu, pledged to communicate the resolutions of the meeting to union members and ensure that all individuals intending to place adverts on vehicles are referred to the Agency for proper authorization.
Similarly, the Public Relations Officer of the Transport Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Alhaji Abdulganiyu Isiaka Agba, called for broader public sensitization to further enlighten citizens about the new and laudable directives introduced by KWASAA.

Also speaking, Mr. Babatunde Abdulganiyu, the Administrative Secretary of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), assured the Agency of the association’s readiness to collaborate fully with the state government to safeguard the lives and property of Kwarans.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by all parties to work collectively in ensuring that outdoor and transit advertising in Kwara State is safe, responsible, regulated and aligned with global best practices.
