LASWA

LASWA Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) is the organization responsible for regulating, developing and managing all aspects of the waterways in Lagos State

The Lagos State Government (LASG) in 2008 enacted the Lagos State Waterways Authority Act, which established the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA). LASWA is charged with the responsibility of coordinating and managing the reforms necessary for the long term growth and development of water transportation in Lagos State, including the granting of ferry licenses and concessions for the operatio

ns of terminals to the private sector. These reforms entail the creation of an enabling long-term regulatory environment that attracts significant private sector involvement in the provision of water transportation services.

A high-level international investment delegation paid a visit to the Lagos State Waterways Authority to explore opportunities within Lagos State’s waterways transportation master plan and express strong interest in operating within the state’s water transport sector. 🌊⚡️

At the center of the proposed investment is the introduction of the innovative Candela P-12 — a fully electric 30-seater ferry designed to transform urban water mobility with speed, efficiency, and zero emissions.

The green investment initiative includes the development of an assembly and maintenance plant, establishment of a specialized training centre, deployment of advanced G5 technology, and construction of modern jetties to support efficient and sustainable water transport infrastructure.

This non-debt private investment is being facilitated through strategic partnerships with MACNA and Candela — global leaders in marine mobility and sustainable maritime technology.

Together, the initiative aims to introduce silent, high-speed, zero-emission ferries that reduce energy consumption by up to 80%, while strengthening local capacity through technology transfer, training, and infrastructure development to support the growth of Nigeria’s blue economy.

Happy International Women’s Day! This year, we’re celebrating by placing the spotlight on our female commuters.

This year’s theme, “Give To Gain” reminds us that our service is only as good as the community it serves.

Happy International Women’s Day to every woman who chooses the Lagos Waterways to get where she’s going. And a huge thank you to the formidable women of LASWA for making this space safe, reliable and ours.
