Children's Centre Library, University of Nigeria, Nsukka CCL was founded by women at the Univ. of Nigeria, Nsukka to provide library, information, educational & recreational services for children & youth.

The Children’s Centre Library facilities are open to both the children of university staff and of the wider Nsukka town community, upon payment of a small registration fee. University students, researchers and the general public are also free to use the library for reference purposes. Since 1988 it has served as a teaching laboratory for the Department of Library and Information Science, Universi

ty of Nigeria. In recent years the CCL has established links with several schools in Nsukka and its environs with a view to encouraging reading, information literacy, and library awareness in schools. In addition, it has established a library service to the Nsukka prison.

Beautiful picture books for CCL! Chizara D**e, a middle school student in New York, has donated 50 of her cherished childhood books and 2 giant jigsaw puzzles to Children's Centre Library. To ensure their safe delivery, her mother Ejim, who enjoyed CCL as a child, carried the books from the United States to Nigeria. In the spirit of the 2025 International School Library Month (ISLM) with the general theme; "Beyond the Bookshelf: AI, Libraries, and the Future of Stories", we visited University Primary School yesterday, 10th October, 2025 to have a chat with children and assign a project-work to primary 4 and 5 pupils on 'Occupation' as part of our theme on "People and Places"

The theme was clearly explained alongside the project topic with an emphasis on people sharing stories about their lives and work, and children are expected to conduct interviews with people (within their neighborhood, church, marketplace, etc) in their respective occupations while also sourcing information from the library on the chosen occupation.

📚✨ *Celebrating International School Library Month 2025!* ✨

🌷On 22nd October, we had the joy of visiting Central School by Odenigbo as part of this year’s ISLM celebration themed “Beyond the Bookshelf: AI, Libraries, and the Future of Stories.” 🌍🤖📖

🌷We spent a beautiful morning chatting with the brilliant minds in Primary 5 and 6, introducing them to a special project under our sub-theme “People and Places.” The topic? Occupation — a gateway to understanding the world of work through storytelling and research.

🗣️ The children were encouraged to explore their communities — from churches to marketplaces — and interview individuals about their jobs, gathering stories that reflect real-life experiences. They’ll also dive into their school libraries to enrich their understanding of these occupations.

🎯 The goal? To empower these young learners with essential information skills: how to access, retrieve, evaluate, analyze, and communicate knowledge effectively.

🌷It’s all about nurturing curiosity, building confidence, and helping them see that every story — especially those beyond the bookshelf — matters.

The pupils were introduced to the act of *"people and places" by exposing them to occupation of different people in different places.

The pupils were taught how to approach people and ask them questions.

Questions were given to the pupils to serve as quidelines to help them in asking the right questions.
