*_About the Lecturer_*
*Professor Petra Obioma Nnamani*, a distinguished pharmaceutical scientist from the Department of Pharmaceutics, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, is a global leader in nanotechnology-based drug delivery research. A UNN alumnus (B.Pharm 2001, M.Pharm 2004, PhD 2010), she has held research fellowships in Italy, India, and Germany, including the prestigious Georg Forster Research Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2019–2023). Her groundbreaking work explores how nanocarriers can cross biological barriers to improve drug delivery in complex disease conditions. Prof. Nnamani’s achievements have earned her numerous international recognitions — among them, WIPO’s Top 10 Women Innovators in Africa (2016) and TechWomen USA’s Leader in STEM (2017). With over 100 publications, three patents, and many successfully supervised doctoral scholars, she stands as an inspiring voice for innovation, women in science, and the future of pharmaceutical research in Africa.
_*About the Lecture*_
In this lecture, Professor Petra Obioma Nnamani will share her research about _why size truly matters_ in modern medicine. She will explain how nanotechnology — the science of designing materials at the nanoscale — is transforming the way drugs are delivered in the body. By manipulating particle size, shape, and surface properties, medicines can be targeted to specific tissues, released in controlled ways, and made more effective with fewer side effects. Professor Nnamani will reveal how these “smart” nanocarriers are redefining therapy, improving patient outcomes, and proving that the smallest particles can make the biggest impact.
