The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has emerged third in Nigeria in the latest Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, released in July 2026, among more than 32,000 institutions worldwide.

UNN ranked behind the University of Ibadan and the University of Lagos, further strengthening its reputation for research, teaching, academic visibility and global competitiveness.

The latest result adds to UNN’s strong performances in other major rankings. The university was ranked second in Nigeria by the 2026 AD Scientific Index, featured among the top 1,500 universities globally in the 2026 Times Higher Education rankings, and was placed among Africa’s top 20 universities in the inaugural 2026 QS World University Rankings. Under Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, UNN is intensifying efforts to strengthen research, digital infrastructure and international partnerships, with the broader ambition of positioning the university among Africa’s best.

The consistent rankings signal UNN’s growing presence and competitiveness in the global higher education community.
