*ENUGU FOREST GUARD COMMANDER LEADS BY EXAMPLE WITH TWO-DAY ON-SITE ASSESSMENT OF OKPATU AND AWHUM WATERFALL*
_Direct field engagement reinforces commitment to security and tourism growth in Udi LGA_
ENUGU, Nigeria – August 16, 2026* – Demonstrating leadership by example, the Commander of the Enugu State Forest Guard undertook a two-day field assessment of Okpatu Community and the Awhum Waterfall tourism site in Udi Local Government Area on Friday, August 14 and Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The visit aimed to conduct an on-the-spot evaluation of security, review the welfare of deployed personnel, and inspect tourism infrastructure being developed by the Enugu State Government.
*HIGHLIGHTS OF THE VISIT*
*Friday, August 14 – Okpatu Community*
The Commander was received by Udi North Sector Officer, Chidera, and the Engineer in charge of the tourism centre under construction. Discussions focused on security operations, community collaboration, and personnel welfare.
*Saturday, August 15 – Awhum Waterfall*
At the waterfall, the Commander inspected site activities, reviewed existing security arrangements, and assessed facilities to ensure visitor safety and environmental protection ahead of peak tourism periods.
Speaking during the assessment, the Commander stated:
_"You cannot lead from the office. I came here myself to see, to listen, and to stand with our men on the ground. The safety of our forests, our communities, and our tourism assets is non-negotiable."_
The Commander further reaffirmed the Corps’ resolve to partner with local communities, traditional institutions, and government agencies to ensure that Enugu’s forests remain secure and its tourism sites are safe, viable, and attractive to visitors.
